Streamer PaymoneyWubby has labelled Twitch’s 50/50 sub split as “highway robbery,” saying it is not “industry standard” for creators.
Most big-name streamers have different ways to monetize their content outside of Twitch and Kick, but they still rely a fair bit on donations, advertisements, and subscriptions.
The majority of Twitch stars get a 50/50 split with the platform from each subscriber, while some have specific contractsthat allow them to make a little more money. That has been a constant talking point over the years and has seen many streamers opt to stream elsewhere as a result.
In the case of PaymoneyWubby, he streams across both Twitch and Kick, and believes Twitch’s sub split is “highway robbery” at this point.
PaymoneyWubby calls Twitch’s sub split a “robbery”
Speaking to Dexerto, the streaming star highlighted it as one thing he’d change about Twitch – compensating streamers a better way.
“As someone who has been fighting my own streaming platform for years, I feel a constant level of frustration over one, the sub split,” he said. “I think it is highway robbery; it is not industry standard at this point, especially with the rise of Kick. You can say what you want about Kick; at the very least, they are doing a 95/5 sub split.
“Twitch is so far behind with their sub split. New streamers is 50/50 – that’s insulting. I would tell everyone, don’t stream on Twitch; you’re getting robbed. And then as you grow on Twitch, they’re generous enough to give you 70/30.”
Wubby also noted that “transparency and communication” are other big issues for Twitch. “Most people don’t know how to talk to Twitch and, on top of that, their sub split is just robbery,” he added.
