Xbox Nano Controller Is Smaller, Cheaper, and Rechargeable

Pack full-size travel gadgets for a weekend trip and you will notice the weight immediately. Microsoft’s new Xbox Nano Controller cuts that burden significantly, arriving at $49.99 with a built-in rechargeable battery and a form factor aimed at smaller hands, younger players, and anyone gaming away from the couch.

Pre-orders are already open in the United States, with the controller hitting shelves on November 4, 2026. International availability follows that same month across the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and dozens of additional markets spanning Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

    Same Controls, Smaller Package

The Nano shrinks the Xbox controller’s footprint without removing a single standard input.

At just over five inches long and 3.5 ounces, the Nano is noticeably more compact than the standard Xbox controller while keeping the input layout you already know. All 18 standard gameplay inputs are present: analog sticks, face buttons, triggers, bumpers, and the disc-style directional pad. Microsoft kept the familiar arrangement intact rather than redesigning around the smaller chassis.

The controller also includes a programmable Action Button configurable through the Xbox Accessories app, useful for mapping screenshots or gameplay recording shortcuts. The announced colorway is white, with the signature colorful ABXY buttons found across Microsoft’s controller lineup.

Charging Gets an Upgrade, With Caveats

Built-in USB-C charging replaces AA batteries, though several key power details remain unconfirmed.

Microsoft describes the Nano as an entry-level rechargeable option designed for portability and smaller hands. That framing marks a meaningful step forward for a company that has long defaulted to AA batteries in its standard controller. Charging runs through a USB-C port, though a cable may need to be purchased separately, and the Nano is not compatible with older Xbox charging accessories.

The more significant gap in the announcement is what Microsoft has not said. Battery capacity, expected playtime, and charging tips are all unconfirmed as of the product’s reveal. Those numbers matter, particularly for parents buying this for children or players planning to rely on it during travel.

Connectivity covers Xbox Wireless for direct console pairing and Bluetooth for Windows PCs, iOS and Android devices, and select smart TVs. That range of compatibility makes it a reasonable companion for cloud gaming and mobile Xbox play, not just living-room sessions.

    Who This Is Actually For

At $20 less than a standard Xbox controller, the Nano targets younger players, portable gamers, and anyone looking for a capable backup.

At $49.99, the Nano comes in $20 below the typical $69.99 price of a standard Xbox controller That gap positions it as a practical second controller or a first option for younger players, with the integrated battery and broad device support reinforcing that case

Microsoft is also offering US holiday bundles pairing the Nano with two months of Xbox Game PassUltimate for new members, alongside qualifying Samsung TVs. A Meta Quest bundle has been reported but may not be fully finalized, so check Microsoft’s current offer page before purchasing.

Adults with larger hands may find the reduced grip less comfortable during longer sessions, though that remains a hands-on question rather than a confirmed limitation. The $49.99 price and rechargeable battery make a strong first impression on paper. Battery life and long-session comfort are the two things no spec sheet can settle, and those answers will have to wait until the Nano reaches real hands in November.
