Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, says Daredevil: Born Again was always meant to finish at Season 3. That is a tidy story for a show whose ending surprised many fans, and it doesn’t quite match what he said a year and a half ago. IGN reports that Winderbaum made the comments on The Brandon Davis Show when asked about the final season.
His explanation is structural. Winderbaum said the Netflix series ran three seasons and Born Again will run three, so the two work like comic-book collections. “They’re kind of like trade paperbacks or collections that you can slot into your shelves, like these are two 3-volume sets,” he said, adding that Marvel will “take a breath and figure out what’s next for the character.” He didn’t announce a new series, a film or a return date for Charlie Cox.

A different tune in 2025
The IGN report points out that Winderbaum’s earlier comments pointed the other way. Before Season 1 premiered in 2025, he described an annual March release plan. “Season 2 will come out next year, and then hopefully Season 3 and Season Infinity after that,” he said then, calling the world “extremely rich.”
IGN’s reading is that plans may have shifted if viewership fell short, and that the three-season ending may have firmed up during development of Season 3. We covered the numbers when Season 2 lost nearly half its audience despite strong reviews. Winderbaum’s account is the official line, and no Marvel statement ties the decision to viewing figures.
What the cast knew
Cox’s account fits Winderbaum’s. JoBlo reports that Cox told GamesRadar+ at New York Comic Con there was “a little bit more planning and emotional support” this time. The Netflix series was cancelled abruptly, so this ending was handled differently. He also said the cast had a good sense it was coming.
Cox hasn’t ruled out more. Asked whether he’s done as Daredevil, he said it might be the case, then urged fans to get the Save Daredevil campaign going. GamesRadar also carries Winderbaum’s remarks, in which he says the Marvel TV chief’s plan was “always to make a third season.”
What’s left to watch
The final season is expected on Disney+ in March 2027 and the premiere date hasn’t been announced. It brings the Defenders back together, with Krysten Ritter, Finn Jones and Mike Colter returning. Is Daredevil: Born Again really ending after Season 3?
Yes. Season 3 has been confirmed as the final season of the Disney+ series, and Winderbaum says it was the plan all along. Whether Matt Murdock appears in future Marvel projects hasn’t been announced.
When does Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 premiere?
It’s expected on Disney+ in March 2027. Marvel hasn’t announced an exact date.
Do I need to rewatch the Netflix series before the final season?
Marvel hasn’t said so, but Born Again continues Matt Murdock’s story and brings back several Netflix characters. A refresher on the Defenders storylines would help ahead of the reunion.
