Hasbro’s Marvel Legends team made sure to show out at New York Comic Con this year, starting at the press event announcing and showing their new Made To Order X-Men ’97 Bastion and Boliver Trask 2 Pack set. At the press event, I got to speak with Dan Yun, marketer for Marvel Legends, about their current releases and this new announcement. When I started talking to Dan about the new figures, he said, “We decided to make a made-to-order two-pack: Bastion in his final form as Sentinel Nimrod, and Bolivar Trask—our first-ever Bolivar Trask. We’ve never actually made a Bolivar Trask, which is very special. He helped make the Sentinels in the comics and in the show—and we’ve made a lot of Sentinels in our line.”
The Bastion on display was a prototype, but it looked amazingly articulated and was an impressive recreation of how the characters looked in the show. For me, theX-Men ’97 line of figures are some of the best Marvel Legends Hasbro put out. I asked how to purchase, and Yun stated, “This is a made-to-order item, meaning you can only get it at Hasbro Pulse. You put in a preorder by November 20, and it will ship out to you the following year.”

When telling me about the current Avengers: Doomsday figures, Yun brought up something about the fandom I wasn’t aware of, “There’s a thing within the action-figure community called ‘pocket figures.’ Sometimes you bring one of the figures featured in the film into the theater to watch it with you. If you want a pocket figure, grab your Doctor Doom, grab your Shang-Chi, grab your Cyclops, and take it with you to see Avengers: Doomsday.”
Once we moved to the Marvel Games section, we talked about our mutual love of the Capcom fighting games series and how it got me to start collecting Marvel Legends. He showed off the recent releases of the Iron Man vs. Spiral 2-pack and the Hasbro Pulse exclusive Pink Gargantos (f.k.a. Shuma Gorath). Then showed me the current role-play items like the ever-present Hulk Hands along with Cyclops’ visor. My conversation finished with Dan saying: “We have a lot of stuff for every type of Marvel fan—whether you’re a video-game fan, a comic-book fan, a movie fan, or an animated-series fan”.

Though I wasn’t able to get into Sunday’s Hasbro Marvel Legends and Star Wars panel to cover in person, luckily all the exciting reveals are available to watch on Hasbro’s official YouTube channel. A new wave of X-Men ’97 figures – Havok, Polaris, Gambit (Death), Vindicator, along with Cyclops and Jean Grey in their New X-Men-inspired X-Corps outfits. The standout for me is Havok, as the effect pieces for his powers look fantastic. This might be one of the strongest full lineups they’ve shown in a while. The Vindicator figure also ships with a full white mask variant to pair with the previous Alpha Flight figures that came out this year.

Still on the animated front, they showed off a new 2-pack based on the upcoming season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man with Spidey and The Rhino. Sculpted and painted to match the style of the show, Spidey comes with a masked and unmasked head, glasses, extra hands, webline, and webbing to go on Rhino’s face. This reveal is also the first glimpse of what’s in store in season two of the animated series. These will probably look great with the X-Men ’97 line and also seem to be a pretty perfect-looking teenage Spider-Man figure.

They then showed an updated first wave figure and the three wave 2 figures for Avengers: Doomsday, an updated Thor with a new head sculpt coming to shelves, as they stated they didn’t like the current one and made a more stoic-looking face. They then showed Nightcrawler, Beast, and a figure based on concept art that won’t be in the film, Lord Doom. Making a figure based on concept art isn’t new, as they just did it with Wolverinepool in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine wave earlier this year.

Hasbro also showcased a Spider-Man Venom from the recent comics, and a re-release of Astonishing X-Men Cyclops and Wolverine in a 2-pack for those who missed it and can complete the whole roster. It will release later this year. No date yet for the pre-order. Avengers: Doomsday wave two pre-orders open on October 14th at 1:00 PM EST on Hasbro Pulse and mainline retailers. The new X-Men ’97 wave pre-orders open on October 21st at 1:00 PM, also on Hasbro Pulse and Mainline retailers. The new Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man pre-orders happen at the end of October.
