The Last Boy Scout 4K (Arrow Video) Review!
    October 13, 2026

Arrow seems to find a way to release movies that trigger endorphins and nostalgia in equal measure with the The Last Boy Scout being no exception. This film is a great example of a “Stop What You’re Doing And Watch” kind of movies where if it’s on TV you have to finish it through to the end. This movie also falls in the category of being my not quite favorite with many of the parties involved: my 3rd favorite Bruce Willis movie, definitely my 2nd favorite Tony Scott movie, and probably my 2nd favorite Shane Black script. This movie is an action movie delivered by a master of the genre with one of our best stars in tow mixing noir with slow motion gun-toting in a way that just isn’t done anymore.

I read that Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans did not get along, which is sad because they play off of each other wonderfully here. I’d see a whole series of films or even read a whole series of novels about these two solving mysteries together. Alas, like Shane Black’s The Nice Guys, we only ever got one film about our unlikely duo working together. In many ways this film feels like a dry-run for The Nice Guys and would technically be the first entry in an unofficial trilogy of Shane Black buddy-detective movies set in LA (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang would be the middle chapter). There are many reasons to love this movie, I mean as far as action-comedies go there’s a lot of action and a lot of comedy giving you your money’s worth. My favorite reason to love this movie is that it’s comforting in its composition as a film tailor-made to entertain.

I grew up watching movies on cable and I loved all of them regardless of their quality. There are some of these movies that I hold dear that I know aren’t very good by not standing the test of time at all, The Last Boy Scout is not one of these movies. It may be controversial to say this but I think Tony Scott is the better director of the Scott family. I think his filmography has way more consistency compared to Ridley’s. Obviously Alien and Blade Runner are not films to be sneezed at as movies considered to be text-book classics unfortunately they were early career films for Ridley that he’s never even come close to surpassing compared to Tony who had a run of films that just progressively got better. I love the leads in the film, they are undeniably fun to watch, but they are bolstered by a tremendous supporting cast. Taylor Negron as Milo has to be my favorite of the villains with one of the best lines in a movie already filled with great lines (“Apparently there are too many bullets in this gun.”), I only wish he had been introduced earlier in the film and miss seeing him in movies (RIP).

Arrow has done a fantastic job transferring this film to 4k from the original 35mm camera negative, it looks gorgeous making me feel like I’ve never seen it before. Vibrant colors and dark shadows that really sell the whole LA Noir look of the movie look amazing on this disc. There are some great new features on here making this a very worthy upgrade. I absolutely love that they included 2 different drafts of the script as a special feature which is a rarity and a fantastic selling point considering how well written this movie is. This film is a quintessential 90s action film that is always worth checking out, Arrow has put together an edition worthy of the movie’s fans. I really appreciate them sending this along review, a movie I’ve always wanted to add to my collection that I never got around to and now I’m blessed with the best possible version.
