Jaoler 2 is all set to release tomorrow

Superstar Rajinikanth has shared an interesting behind the scenes story on how veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was cast in Jailer 2. According to Rajinikanth, Mithun was reluctant to take up the role of the antagonist in the much-awaited sequel as he was not ready to face his close friend.

This was during the Jailer 2 Super Show where Rajinikanth revealed how Mithun finally agreed to do the film but only after putting one condition for his character.

Jailer 2: Mithun Chakraborty Initially Rejected the Film

In a recent interview, Rajinikanth revealed details about the casting process and said that the veteran actor was not convinced when the production team had approached Mithun for the role of the villain.

Reportedly, Mithun Chakraborty asked why he should play the villain to Rajinikanth, and if that meant getting beaten up by his friend on screen. Initially, he refused the offer given the long history of their friendship.

But that changed when the two actors met at the WAVES Summit, an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the conversation, Mithun was told by Rajinikanth that he would think of doing the film if the superstar wanted him to be personally part of it.

Rajinikanth agreed readily, saying that he will be happy to share screen space with his friend again.

Mithun’s One Condition to Play the Villain

Mithun was willing to do the project but he had one condition. Rajinikanth’s character could not beat him up or shoot him in the film.

Rajinikanth said Mithun had made the condition clear before accepting the role. The superstar said that he will have to discuss the request with director Nelson Dilipkumar before giving him an answer.

The anecdote has grabbed the fans’ attention especially as Mithun is playing the antagonist in a film featuring one of the biggest action stars of Indian cinema. It’s unclear if the condition has affected the final screenplay.

Rajinikanth & Mithun Chakraborty Reunite After Almost 3 Decades

The collaboration is yet another reunion for Rajinikanth and Mithun, who earlier shared the screen in the 1989 film Bhrashtachar, directed by Ramesh Sippy. They were also related through the 1997 Bengali film Bhagya Debata, which featured Rajinikanth in a special appearance.

Their coming together in Jailer 2 has become one of the talking points around the sequel, with viewers keen to see the two veteran stars share screen space.

Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner.

The film marks a return for Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik also returning. The new instalment also stars names like Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna.

The music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The cinematography was handled by Vijay Kartik Kannan and the editing by R. Nirmal.

Rajinikanth’s reveal has added another interesting layer to the sequel’s promotions, with the film slated to hit theaters worldwide on October 15, 2026. The pairing of two veteran stars, an ensemble cast and Nelson’s action-oriented storytelling has made Jailer 2 one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the year.
