This week’s throwback trailer is for the 1985 action movie Gymkata, a movie that combines martial arts with gymnastics! With the Olympics coming to a close recently, I thought this would be fun for you guys.
The film tells the story of Jonathan Cabot, a skilled gymnast and martial artist who is recruited by the U.S. government to carry out a dangerous mission.
Cabot is sent to the fictional country of Pamistan, where he must compete in “The Game,” a deadly obstacle course in which failure means death.
The stakes are high, as the United States hopes to use Palmistan as a strategic location for satellite monitoring stations. To survive, Cabot must rely on his acrobatic skills and martial arts prowess to defeat enemies and overcome deadly challenges in his path.
The film is known for its weird and wonderful action scenes, including one in which Cabot uses gymnastics equipment such as the pommel horse as a weapon against his opponents.
The film has the campy charm of a low-budget action movie from the ’80s. Enjoy the trailer!
