Unity Software (NYSE:U) shares rose 5% on Wednesday after the company announced a strategic partnership with Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) to develop an artificial intelligence-powered gaming platform.
The collaboration will combine Google’s AI technology with Unity’s game engine to develop tools allowing users to create and customise playable games using natural-language prompts without requiring coding skills.
Google has introduced an experimental platform called Playground, available to users aged 18 and over, which enables games to be created through text prompts.
Google and Unity Plan Unity Spark Launch
Google and Unity plan to launch Unity Spark later this year. The product is intended to provide accessible creation tools for new users alongside more advanced functionality for experienced developers.
Unity Spark will incorporate high-fidelity 3D capabilities and the Unity runtime, allowing users to develop games ranging from basic concepts to more complex experiences.
The platform will also use Google’s consumer ecosystem for distribution, with Google planning to feature selected Playground creations across its network.
Integration with Google Play Games profiles will provide features including leaderboards, multiplayer matchmaking and community functionality.
The companies said the partnership is intended to make game-development tools available to a wider range of users and will include community features for sharing content.
Roblox Shares Fall Following Announcement
Roblox (NYSE:RBLX) shares declined 7.8% following the announcement.
The Google-Unity platform will operate in the user-generated gaming market, where Roblox also provides tools allowing users to create and distribute interactive experiences.
