Another show from Taylor Sheridan’s TV empire has made its way out of Paramount+. On October 5, 2026, the first four seasons of “Mayor of Kingstown” landed on Netflix, opening the door for new fans who don’t have access to Paramount’s streamer. If you like crime thrillers or Sheridan’s other shows, like “Yellowstone” or “Landman,” it may be worth tuning into “Mayor of Kingstown” before the fifth and final season airs.

Co-created by Sheridan and “Yellowstone” star Hugh Dillon, “Mayor of Kingstown” follows a family in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan, who try to maintain the balance of power between the town’s various street gangs, cops, attorneys, and prison wardens. For the first time in his career, Jeremy Renner stars as the lead of a TV show that lasts longer than one season, playing Mike McLusky, the so-called “Mayor.” But Mike is not a real mayor — that’s just the title for the head of his family of mediators.

Over four seasons, Mike, who reluctantly took on the position of “Mayor of Kingstown,” struggles to keep the different groups and his own family in check following multiple crises. “Mayor of Kingstown” features a few familiar faces alongside Renner, including Edie Falco, Lennie James, and Kyle Chandler. Dillon himself appears in the series as a cop who works outside the law with Mike’s brother to take down criminals and keep the peace in Kingstown.

“Mayor of Kingstown” premiered on Paramount+ in November 2021, but, in 2023, Hugh Dillon told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Taylor Sheridan had come up with the idea years earlier. “I grew up in a prison town that had nine penitentiaries,” Dillon, who is from Kingston, Ontario, said. “So when Taylor dove into it, he’d ask questions. He’s a very curious person, and he’s always interested in the truth and the facts.”

Dillon added, “[Mayor of Kingstown] was the first thing Taylor wrote, so it was always in his pocket. And we were always like, “[Jeremy] Renner is the guy and Dianne Wiest …’ So they were always our first choices.” At the time, Sheridan had been Dillon’s acting coach; they later became close friends as Sheridan moved forward in his screenwriting and directing career. In 2017, Dillon starred in “Wind River,” directed by Sheridan and starring Renner — and that’s when the trio began working on “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Although “Mayor of Kingstown” has lasted over five years, it took several seasons to win over critics, and it has yet to win any major awards. However, Sheridan’s TV shows have always struggled to win over critics and award bodies. Critics panned the first two seasons of “Mayor of Kingstown,” but Seasons 3 and 4, which were reviewed by fewer critics, received more positive reviews. Season 4 even received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%, albeit from just five reviews.
