This December sees the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, but, as most cinephiles know, that isn’t the only high-profile studio tentpole looking to make a splash at the box office this holiday season. Opening on the same day as Doomsday is Denis Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated Dune: Part Three, billed as the conclusion to the director’s critically acclaimed sci-fi trilogy. The film promises to be a big-screen spectacle unlike anything viewers have seen, taking cues from Saving Private Ryan as it tells a sweeping and gripping war story. Back in March, audiences were treated to the first look at Dune: Part Three, which was fittingly epic. Now, the next trailer has been revealed.

Today, Warner Bros. released the latest Dune: Part Three trailer, showcasing more explosive footage from the series finale. Watch it in the space below:
Dune: Part Three Promises to Be One of the Biggest Movie Events of the Year
Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, there are some major movie releases on deck, including The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day later this month (and the former is already earning rave reactions). Few projects these days can even come close to contending with a new Christopher Nolan film or a widely anticipated Marvel blockbuster, but Dune: Part Three certainly belongs in that category. The franchise has already cemented its place as one of the best sci-fi series of the decade; the previous two installments earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture thanks to Villeneuve’s knack for blending jaw-dropping visuals with compelling, character-driven storytelling. Time will tell how Dune: Part Three compares to its predecessors, but the marketing materials have made it look like it’s a guaranteed winner.
The fact that Dune: Part Three will be a feast for the eyes (there’s a reason Warner Bros. wanted to snag those coveted IMAX screens before Marvel) shouldn’t come as any surprise. Villeneuve is a master of his craft and has always fully immersed audiences with his breathtaking sense of scale and scope. What’s great to see is that Dune: Part Three should sport a captivating narrative, chronicling Paul Atreides’ reign as emperor. In his quest for power, he has laid many worlds to waste and drawn the ire of Chani, who feels betrayed by Paul’s actions. In this trailer, we also get a better idea of what Robert Pattinson’s Scytale is up to. He intends to spearhead a “regime change” by killing Paul, setting the stage for a massive conflict.
The new Dune: Part Three trailer also sheds more light on Jason Momoa’s return to the franchise. After playing the charismatic Duncan Idaho in the first film, Momoa is back as Hayt, a ghola who was designed to look like Duncan. Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t attempt to explain the ghola concept. Momoa’s presence in Dune: Part Three could potentially be confusing for those unfamiliar with the source material, so some might have expected marketing materials to be a bit more overt on this matter. At the same time, it’s refreshing to see the trailer deliberately not holding the audience’s hand, trusting viewers will go along with the story Villeneuve is telling (the director has more than earned the trust of moviegoers by now). The film itself will undoubtedly have some exposition to bring people up to speed, but it’s not necessary for the purposes of the trailer.
The dynamic between Paul and Hayt should be one of the more fascinating aspects of Dune: Part Three. In the books, Scytale brings the ghola to Paul as a gift, even though its true intention is to kill the emperor. Paul is aware of Scytale’s plot but accepts the gift anyway, and it’ll be interesting to see how that arc plays out on screen. Duncan and Paul had a friendly relationship with each other in the first movie, and now we’ll get a chance to see Momoa and Timotheé Chalamet interact in a new light, providing fresh angles and perspectives on their characters. If Dune: Part Three is anything like its predecessors, this will go down as one of the best movie trilogies of all time
