Things to do: Comic Books, concerts, model trains and fall festivals

Celebrate the coming of fall and cooler temperatures this weekend with events ranging from comic books to concerts, giant model trains and a festive road trip to Hohenwald.

Here’s your lineup.

1. Columbia Comic Book & Toy Expo

Columbia’s biggest gathering of superheroes, artists and all things geek returns this weekend for an all-day extravaganza celebrating pop culture and fandom.

The Columbia Comic Book & Toy Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Columbia National Guard Armory, 844 N. James M. Campbell Blvd.

The premier collectible event will feature everything from comic books to vintage and new toys, Pokemon, as well as horror items, cosplayers and more.

Admission is $5 to attend the event.

2. Mulehouse Songwriter Series

You’ve likely heard many of the chart-topping hits and singles by iconic Nashville artists, but how about the stories from the ones who wrote them?

The Mulehouse Songwriter Series returns this weekend to The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St. starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The event’s lineup will feature songwriters Scott Sean White and Adam James, as well as Songwriter Series host Gary Chapman.

Tickets start at $50.69 for tables of two and are available at TheMulehouse.com.

3. Mid-South Live Steamers Fall Meet

The Mid-South Live Steamers invites the community to come aboard for a weekend of free rides at its Fall Meet.

Experience the joy of model trains by taking a ride on these large-scale models at Maury County Park, 1018 Maury County Park Drive, which will be open to all ages from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

All rides are free, though due to safety concerns, pregnant women and anyone over 350 pounds will not be permitted to ride the trains. Children 18 months and younger must also be secured to the front of an adult in a baby carrier, sling or wrap.

In the event of inclement weather, passenger trains will not run.

In addition, Jerzee Dogs food truck will also be onsite serving up is 100% all-beef Sabrett hot dogs.

4. Hohenwald Harvest Festival

With the summer heat dipping into the early days of fall, it’s prime time for a road trip out of town where you can celebrate the changing seasons.

Oak Grove Lavender, 4060 Buffalo Road in Hohenwald, will host its Harvest Festival to ring in the first Saturday of fall. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs until 6 p.m.

The festival will feature artisan vendors, live music, food trucks, as well as a community bake-off. Guests can pick pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, while also enjoying family games and raffle prizes.

Dogs can get in on the fun, as there will be a dog costume contest benefiting High Forest Humane Society.

5. Live entertainment

Don McKinnon will perform at McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

Brandon Bartley will perform at Fozzy’s Bar & Grill, 150 Stephen P. Yokich Parkway in Spring Hill, starting at 8 p.m. Friday.

Johnny Jameson & The Empty Pintswill perform at McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Real Deal will perform at The Rebel Bar and Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Vintage Voltagewill perform at Fozzy’s Bar & Grill, 150 Stephen P. Yokich Parkway in Spring Hill, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Graysonwill perform at The Rebel Bar and Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, starting at 3 p.m. Sunday.
