In VRChat, a wide variety of content is released day and night, from game worlds where you can play with friends to scenic worlds perfect for relaxing. In this series, we will pick out and introduce some of the most visually appealing worlds from the vast number of available worlds.
The world I’m introducing today is “Factum,” a mysterious liminal world where illusion and reality intersect.
“Factum” was created by creator Sayaff. It’s a world where you explore a mysterious building that looks like a hospital ward or experimental facility, with every detail and presentation being thought-provoking.
The respawn point is a dimly lit, bedroom-like area. Upon leaving, the atmosphere suddenly changes. You emerge into a lobby-like area that connects to other rooms. Compared to the dark room, it is brighter and cleaner, but at the same time, it has an impersonal feel to it.
Let’s start by entering the door to room 101. Beyond the door is a small room-like space overgrown with greenery. The walls and other surfaces are the same white as in the lobby, but the plants and trees create a warm contrast.
Room 102, which follows, is filled not with greenery, but with water. Room 103 is like a garden overflowing with flowers.
After entering the three rooms, a staircase appears in the center of the lobby. Proceeding further, you arrive at a room resembling a “core room.” A cube-like object floats in the middle of it. What happens when you touch it…?
We stepped out into a vast flower field, quite different from the facility. The flowers in bloom appeared to be nemophila, and a cross resembling a tombstone stood in the center of the space.
It feels like the song is reaching its climax, but “Factum” doesn’t end there.
I was pulled back into a dimly lit room, just like the first one, and the words “Failure Boot” appeared on the PC screen. It seemed that some kind of error had occurred. I manipulated the screen, and a cutscene played, and I was warped back to the lobby. However, things were a little different this time.
The overall amount of light has decreased, and the rooms feel bare, with flowers and water gone. It gives the impression of being closer to “reality.”
Once you’ve revisited all three rooms, the door you came out of during your first playthrough will become accessible. What lies beyond it…? You’ll just have to see for yourself.
“Factum” is a world where thoughtful and intriguing elements are meticulously crafted from beginning to end. While the overall atmosphere leans towards science fiction, the skillful use of plants and other elements creates a balance that prevents it from becoming too rigid, making it visually engaging and never boring to explore. It would also be fun to visit the world with a group of people and discuss your own interpretations.
