Taylor Swift is giving fans another reason to tune into the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
The pop superstar’s music video for her new single “Patient Zero” will make its world premiere during the VMAs on Sunday, Sept. 27, airing on CBS and MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.

CBS and MTV announced the news Thursday along with a 13-second teaser clip that first aired on “CBS Mornings.”
The brief teaser offers glimpses of Farrell and Johnson, along with haunting images of a cemetery, rushing water and Swift in tears, while keeping the video’s storyline largely under wraps.
“Patient Zero” stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, with cinematography by Academy Award winner Emmanuel Lubezki, known for his work on films including “Birdman,” “The Revenant” and “Gravity.”
The song is featured on “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” an expanded version of Swift’s latest album that includes four previously unreleased tracks. The deluxe edition arrives Friday, Sept. 25, the same day “Patient Zero” is released.
According to CBS and MTV, the exclusive premiere continues the VMAs’ tradition of serving as a destination for major music moments and surprise debuts.
“The exclusive premiere builds on the longstanding VMAs tradition of bringing artists and audiences together for major live music moments while giving artists a global stage to introduce new work and shape the cultural conversation in real time,” the networks said in a statement. The companies added that the debut “reflects the unpredictability that has long defined the show, where unexpected pairings, performances and premieres can become the moments everyone is talking about.”

The video premiere comes during what could be a historic night for Swift. The singer is set to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, a new award recognizing artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video storytelling. She is also nominated for 11 awards and is poised to become the show’s most-awarded artist, breaking her tie with Beyoncé.
Swift could add to her total with wins in marquee categories including Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Artist of the Year. She also has a chance to become the first repeat winner of Best Album if “The Life of a Showgirl” takes the fan-voted prize, having previously won for “Midnights” in 2023. A win for “I Knew It, I Knew You” in Song of Summer would make her just the second artist to win that category multiple times, following her 2024 victory for “Fortnight.”
The 2026 MTV VMAs, hosted by Snoop Dogg, will air live on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT.
