Children from disadvantaged backgrounds showcased their talents in music, dance, puthi recitation, art and science at Agami Fest 2026, organised to support their education and provide opportunities to develop their creativity and skills.
The day-long festival was held at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) Centre in Agargaon on Saturday under the theme “Education for All Children”. Students from Agami schools took part in the event, which ran from 9am to 5pm.
The festival featured musical and dance performances, puthi recitation, an art exhibition, a quiz competition and a science and mathematics fair. The students presented 14 science-based projects, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their ideas and skills outside the classroom.
University teachers and education experts evaluated the projects and artworks and spoke with the children about their work.
Agami Education Foundation organises educational programmes for children from disadvantaged communities and works to expand their access to education while supporting their development. The festival was part of those efforts, with the children taking part as performers and exhibitors rather than simply attending as an audience.
“Our children come from many disadvantaged families. But given the opportunity, their talent, creativity and potential can develop equally. Through this festival, we want to provide them with that opportunity and showcase their achievements and talents,” the organisers said.
Professor Zeba Islam Seraj of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka also highlighted the need to support children who lack access to opportunities.
“We have many children who are deprived of opportunities in society. Some of them are very talented. We all need to continue working to help develop their talents,” she said.
Rabindra Sangeet singer Adity Mohsin and Nazrul Sangeet singer Rebeka Sultana attended the festival to encourage the children. Mohsin later performed “O Amar Desher Mati” without musical accompaniment.
“I am happy to be part of this initiative for the development of children’s creativity. What Agami is doing for children is actually a responsibility that all of us should take on,” Mohsin said.
Sultana said she was impressed by the children’s efforts despite the challenges they face.
“I was overwhelmed to see how the children are trying to develop themselves despite facing so many obstacles,” she said.
The event also featured welcome addresses by Agami Education Foundation President Professor Nehreen Majed and Agami Incorporated Bangladesh Country Director Md Aminul Islam.
The festival also saw the launch of “Agami” magazine by Agami Education Foundation Vice President Nafisa Khanam. The publication highlights the organisation’s activities and achievements, as well as its work with children and schools.
Among those present were Professor Dr Bazlur Rashid Khan, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Jagannath University, and architect and “Toitombur” co-founder Hasnain Sabih Nayek.
