Baseball comic books, didactic comic books, and really old comic books.
The 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) post-season is coming up later this month and All Baseball Comics has issued a trio of MLB licensed comic books telling the history of three of their most enduring franchises.
All are written by Josh Frankel while Chicago Cubs #1 has art by Diego Galindo,Los Angeles Dodgers #1 is drawn by MinoMiyabi, and the New York Yankees #1 is illustrated by Felipe Flores.
The comic books “are made as collectibles … printed in a limited run, and available in a standard edition or a signed variant cover.” Each comic tells the entire history of the titled team in 32 pages for $19.99 or $49.99 for the signed variant.
Middle and high school students are back in class and danger lurks for some from the federal government.
George Gene Gustines at The New York Times reports on a comic book (or here) being offered by the New York Public Schools. Know Your Rights is “an educational comic book that prepares individuals for encounters with federal law enforcement officers.”
Like the baseball comics above this comic book is 32 pages, unlike the baseball comics Know Your Rights is not a limited edition, rather it has a print run of 140,000 copies (half English, half Spanish) and is free.
Know Your Rights written by Alex Segura and drawn by David Hahn and is available digitally in 14 languages.
This ain’t no floppy comic book.
Currently up for bid at Heritage Auctions is the first UK edition of The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck by Rudolphe Töpffer which is, as Heritage’s description says, is “widely recognized as the first English-language comic book.” (They apparently are refusing to acknowledge the Glasgow Looking Glass, at least until they have a copy to offer, though Oldbuck is one continuous story.)
Like the Baseball Comics above it was a limited edition, 500 copies, with very few still existing 185 years later. With 4 days left to bid it is currently at $5,250.
