Just a few days ago, we covered PlayStation 5 emulator KyTyPS5 getting Grand Theft Auto V running, and raised the half-joking possibility that Grand Theft Auto VI might end up playable on PC through emulation before Rockstar ships an official port. That timeline now looks a bit less outlandish in light of the emulator’s latest advancements.
As reported by DSOGaming, the emulator has gone from running Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls Remake at 2 FPS to somewhere between 10 and 18 FPS in the space of a single release. That’s an 800% improvement, and it isn’t a typo. Demon’s Souls isn’t alone, either. Team Asobi‘s excellent platform game Astro Bot is now booting into gameplay for the first time, running at around 11 FPS on a fairly modest setup consisting of an Intel Core i3-10105F and a GeForce RTX 5060. Visually, it’s in much rougher shape than Demon’s Souls, with significant rendering issues, but the fact that it runs at all is the story. That brings the emulator’s list of playable AAA titles to a grand total of three: GTA V, Astro Bot, and Demon’s Souls Remake, alongside indies like Stray.
One caveat is worth stating plainly. There’s chatter in the emulation community attributing these sudden leaps to AI-generated code, though nobody has confirmed anything yet. Besides, AI-generated code is now assisting in all kinds of tasks, so it wouldn’t be too surprising. The build reportedly isn’t on GitHub yet, though it’s expected imminently.
For a long time, SharpEmu seemed the most capable PS5 emulator available on the scene, but KyTyPS5’s strides over the past few weeks have likely put it ahead at this point.
The Timing Is Not Ideal for Sony
Here’s what makes this more than a curiosity for hardware and emulation enthusiasts: Sony has shifted its approach to PC releases a while back, and single player titles will no longer make the jump the way they did during the God of War and Horizon era. I ran into this myself while reviewing Marvel’s Wolverine, where the PS5 Pro version is simply the best way to play the game, given that there’s no official PC version on the horizon that can deliver both advanced ray tracing and a high frame rate.

Of course, we’re still not at the point where PS5 <a href="https://comicvibe.com/5-best-horror-games-of-2026-so-far/” title=”5 Best Horror Games Of 2026 (So Far)”>games can be emulated on PC so perfectly that they look and run as good as or better than a PS5 Pro. However, if this pace continues, it won’t be too long, either, and gamers would be all too happy about it, given the long string of blunders that Sony has run into lately, from the announced plan to stop making discs starting in 2028 to their divestment from Kojima’s Physint project (now picked up by Microsoft’s Xbox), not to mention the closure of Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the Demon’s Souls Remake.
