That’s not to say I hate the way it looks, though I’ll never fully appreciate Google’s rounded screen bezels. Google claims that the look and feel of its new $280 Nest Learning Thermostat was top of mind for the designers. The wheel makes a clicking sound when you turn it, and its purpose is to display information from ambient temperature to weather in pleasant, easy-to-read graphics on the 2.7-inch display. This can be done through the Smart Calendar feature or simply through your activities at different times of the day.
Users can still control these settings through the Google Home app. That means you’ll be able to control it on the new Google TV Streamer box, but since the new thermostat is compatible with Matter, it’ll also work with cameras around your home. Whether you like the new look or not, it’s been a long time coming. The last Nest Thermostat launched by Google in 2020 Only $130 at launch, but it also lacks a scroll wheel. Google first launched Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation $240 back in 2015, so a true sequel has been a long time coming, albeit with a $40 price increase.
As with the redesigned thermostat, which sells for $280, Google is also selling the temperature sensors individually for $40, or in a three-pack for $100. The device will be available for pre-order starting today and will be available on August 20.
