One of Spidey and His Amazing Friends Short moat mischievous characters will be getting his own origin story in the pages of Marvel Comics.
The House of Ideas has announced Amazing Spider-Man: Symbie #1, a special one-shot arriving on December 9, 2026. The hostless symbiote is getting a full origin story from writer Joe Kelly (Deadpool, Amazing Spider-Man) and artist David Baldeón (Nova, Web-Warriors).
SECRET SYMBI-ORIGINS! Spidey met the weird little monster in space but had no idea of the little glob’s history. Take a journey back to the very beginning of the Klyntar race that led to Venom and Carnage and see the journey Symbie has made. It may surprise you!
While Symbie first charmed audiences as a bouncing, host-less ball of goop on television, his leap into Amazing Spider-Manas a recurring supporting cast member highlighted a stranger, darker edge to the character.
Kelly and Baldeón’s main story takes a journey back to the very dawn of the Klyntar race—tracing the ancient symbiote lineage that eventually produced Venom and Carnage to reveal how Symbie came to be.
“From the moment I saw the Symbie design from the Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends show team, I was giddy – both because he’s adorable and also oddly… sinister,” writer Joe Kelly shared in an official statement. “There’s something intriguing about a symbiote in the Marvel Universe that runs around without a host… it’s weird and unnerving, right? Even when it’s adorable, maybe moreso because it’s adorable. That is a fun character – layered and built to subvert expectations. Much like Symbie himself, this book is funny, layered, surprisingly dark, and flat out weird. It’s a blast.”
