That is the interaction Detective VR is built on, and on Wednesday it arrives somewhere it was not designed for.

September 9 on PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR. The game has been on Quest since early 2025, and UploadVR reviewed that version in February of that year, so this is a nineteen month gap between a game existing and a game existing on the platform you happen to own. The ports were announced at the VR Games Showcase on August 12, 2025, for spring 2026. It is September. That is a slip of about two seasons, quietly absorbed, and nobody made a fuss about it, which is roughly the standard treatment a small studio’s port schedule gets.

The part I cannot stop turning over

Detective VR is a mixed reality game. Not decoratively. Structurally. The developers at Studio Chipo y Juan and VALEM Studio told UploadVR around the Quest launch that the goal was “not to create any friction between the player and the story; the interactions had to become natural, almost invisible,” and that mixed reality and hand tracking were how they got there. You are meant to be in your own room, with your own furniture, pinning things to a board that is floating in it.

Now put that on PlayStation VR2. Sony’s headset has passthrough, and it is greyscale, and it exists so you can find your coffee without lifting the visor. It is not a canvas. On the PC side, the Steam listing goes out to a population of headsets where “does it have passthrough” ranges from excellent to no.

UploadVR raised the same question in August 2025 and got no answer. A year later there is still no public one. What the store screenshots do show is that the game already has fully rendered environments, an apartment in Paris with the roofline out the window and boxes stacked in the hall, so the studio is not starting from nothing. They have somewhere to put you when your living room is not available.

Still. A game whose entire pitch was that the crime scene shows up in your house, arriving on a headset that cannot really do that, is a translation problem, and I would like to know how they solved it rather than find out on Wednesday.

The hand tracking half is the better news

PSVR2 supports hand tracking, and a handful of games use it. Masters of Light, Maestro, Waltz of the Wizard. That is a short list for a headset three and a half years old, and adding a game whose primary input scheme is your bare hands makes it slightly less short.

Which matters more than it sounds, because of what people on that platform are actually buying. Sony’s August download chart put three February 2023 launch titles back in the PS VR2 top ten. Job Simulator, Pavlov, Moss. Three and a half years on, a third of the list was software that shipped the day the hardware did. The diagnosis there was never that PSVR2 owners stopped spending. It was that not enough new things arrive for them to spend on.

So: a new thing arrives. On a Wednesday. Nineteen months late to this particular storefront, sure, but a detective game the store advertises at five hours, one case, eleven sequences and six motion captured actors is not nothing, and it is more than the platform got most weeks this year.

What we do not know yet

The Steam page carries no price as of Tuesday. It lists the release as September 9, 2026, developers Studio Chipo y Juan and VALEM Studio, publisher VRKiwi, and a Coming Soon banner where the buy box goes. The PlayStation Store page is live. The Quest version is still on the Horizon Store at $13.99 if you want to see what the mixed reality build actually feels like before deciding whether the port is worth your money.

I would rather have the version that uses my living room. But I am not the one who has been waiting since 2023 for something to put on a PSVR2, and if you are, Wednesday is a better day than most.
