The Lando franchise is officially dead. If anyone remembers: this series was originally announced in 2020. .
Deadline quotes series director/showrunner Justin Simien, who told them the project is not moving forward at Lucasfilm.
Simien told Deadline:
“It was pretty advanced back then. There was a Bible. There was concept art. There was a script. But it wasn’t like that.
No specific reason was given for canceling the project. Last year, there were still rumors that Glover and his co-writers wanted to turn the show into a movie. No more talk about this here. Let’s be honest: Lando’s movie is going to be terrible. He’s a supporting character who works within the larger context of the Star Wars movies, but few want to watch his solo adventures. Of course, the best-case scenario is that we won’t get Lando’s solo project.
Kathleen Kennedy could add another failed/canceled project to her impressive list of things she announced that then never happened.
Now what we’re really waiting for is Deadline reporting that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is outraged that sexist and misogynistic Disney dared to cancel her Rey movie, and how outrageous it is.
If only Lucasfilm had such foresight, which they showed with Acolyte’s Lando series…
If you like, please leave all the usual funny things in the comments section. Maybe someone can post an updated list of Kathleen Kennedy’s Star Wars projects that never came to fruition.
