Fla. – Comedian Leanne Morgan is back for a second season of her Netflix sitcom “Leanne,” with more family chaos, dating and plenty of laughs
Morgan recently spoke with News4JAX about what viewers can expect from Season 2 and how the experience has changed since the show first premiered.
“Bigger and better than I ever dreamed of,” Morgan said of the response to the series.
Morgan said she recently finished binge-watching the second season herself and praised the ensemble cast, which includes Kristen Johnston, Celia Weston, Blake Clark and Ryan Stiles.
“I thought it was so funny and had heart,” Morgan said. “I’m just so proud of what we did.”
The series follows Leanne, a grandmother whose life is turned upside down when her husband of more than 30 years leaves her for another woman.
Season 2 picks up as Leanne continues trying to figure out what comes next while dealing with her ex-husband, her children, grandchildren and aging parents.
“She’s still just trying, honey, to figure out what her life’s going to be like,” Morgan said.
Morgan said the storyline hits close to home. Her own parents are 83 and 86, and she understands what it is like to care for family while also trying to determine what you want for yourself.
“You do everything for everybody else, and then now it’s your time and you’ve got to figure it out,” Morgan said. “To me, 60’s the new 40.”
Morgan said viewers can expect more of Leanne’s parents this season, along with some dating drama.
The comedian said the family storylines are already resonating with viewers who see their own experiences caring for aging parents reflected on screen.
“You’ve got to laugh to get through the hard times,” Morgan said.
Morgan also said she entered Season 2 with more confidence after completing the show’s first season, but that did not mean the nerves disappeared.
“I did feel more confident, but I still wanted everything to be wonderful,” Morgan said.
She said part of that pressure comes from wanting to deliver for fans who have supported her throughout her career, from her years performing stand-up comedy to now starring in her own Netflix series.
So, what does Morgan recommend for watching Season 2?
“You need to get on your most comfortable pajamas, a big sweatshirt, get all of your snacks and make sure your feet are warm,” Morgan said.
And Jacksonville fans could have another chance to see Morgan beyond the screen. During the interview, she said she expects to return to Jacksonville next year while touring.
