As the legendary British heavy metal band continues its 50th-anniversary celebrations, Iron Maiden has announced two special vinyl releases arriving this December: a limited-edition 40th anniversary pressing of Somewhere in Time and a massive 10-LP box set covering the band’s first nine studio albums.
For collectors and longtime Maiden fans, this is about as tempting as anniversary merchandise gets.
‘Somewhere in Time’ Gets the 40th Anniversary Treatment
First up is Somewhere in Time, Iron Maiden’s sixth studio album, which originally arrived in 1986.
The record remains one of the band’s most beloved releases, thanks to classics including “Wasted Years,” “Caught Somewhere in Time,” “Stranger in a Strange Land,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “Alexander the Great.” Four decades later, the album continues to play an important role in Maiden’s live shows.
To mark its 40th anniversary, Somewhere in Time will be reissued on limited-edition oxblood-colored vinyl, featuring the 2015 audio remastering.
The release is scheduled for December 4 and is already available to pre-order. An exclusive Amazon variant will also include a full-sleeve poster, giving collectors another incentive to pick up the special edition.
A Nine-Album Collection Celebrates 50 Years of Iron Maiden
The bigger announcement, however, may be the 50th Anniversary Studio Album Collection, Part One: 1980–1992.
The new box set spans Iron Maiden’s first nine studio albums, taking fans from the band’s 1980 self-titled debut all the way through 1992’s Fear of the Dark. The collection arrives in a specially designed box and includes an anniversary poster.
The albums will be pressed on a range of colored vinyl:
- Iron Maiden — red/gold vinyl
- Killers — red vinyl
- The Number of the Beast — silver vinyl
- Piece of Mind — yellow vinyl
- Powerslave — gold vinyl
- Somewhere in Time — oxblood vinyl
- Seventh Son of a Seventh Son — white vinyl
- No Prayer for the Dying — olive vinyl
- Fear of the Dark — two LPs on blue and yellow vinyl
The set is scheduled for December 11. It will be available exclusively through Amazon outside the U.S., while American fans will also have a non-Amazon retail option that does not include the poster.
