Akshay Kumar has paid an emotional tribute to veteran actor Asrani ahead of the release of Haiwaan. The actor shared a short clip from the upcoming Priyadarshan directorial on social media, revealing that the sequence features Asrani’s final-ever shot.
Sharing the video on Instagram, Akshay remembered the opportunity to work with the legendary performer and expressed his admiration for the veteran actor. He also said he would miss Asrani and emphasised that there could never be another performer like him.
The clip offers a brief glimpse of Asrani alongside actor Sharib Hashmi. In the scene, the veteran actor delivers a punchline, giving audiences a glimpse of his role in the upcoming thriller. While the sequence is short, its significance has now become emotional following Asrani’s death.
Remembering Asrani with Haiwaan
Asrani, whose real name was Govardhan Asrani, was one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable performers. Known particularly for his impeccable comic timing, expressive performances and memorable supporting roles, the actor enjoyed a career spanning several decades. He also demonstrated his versatility by appearing in both comic and dramatic roles throughout his journey in the industry.
Asrani died in Mumbai in October last year following a prolonged illness. His death marked the end of an era for Hindi cinema, with several generations of actors and filmmakers remembering his contribution to the industry.
His appearance in Haiwaan is therefore particularly poignant, as the film brings together the veteran performer with a contemporary ensemble led by Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The film also stars Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sharib Hashmi, Rajpal Yadav, Rajesh Sharma, Pahal Chaudhary and Manoj Joshi, among others.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai under KVN Productions and Thespian Films. The film is scheduled to release worldwide in cinemas on September 11.
Akshay’s tribute has added an emotional layer to the film’s promotions. For audiences, Asrani’s brief appearance will now carry added significance as it marks the veteran actor’s final filmed performance.
