Following the recent unveiling of Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix, next-gen console sales in the UK have seen an uptick. Data reveals notable upsurges, with the PlayStation 5 experiencing a 33% increase, while Xbox Series X|S sales went up by 34%
The PS5 Pro has been selling out across the country, with only the standard versions left at numerous retailers like Argos and Smyths Toys, as noted by Independent.
Despite the enthusiasm around the upcoming November launch of GTA 6, accompanied by the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in October, Ronan Patrick from Newzoo suggests that while there will be growth in the user base, it might not be significantly large. He emphasized that adjusting for inflation, the PS5 is 67% higher in price than at its release, and Xbox has doubled in cost.
Patrick noted that players generally spend more time on older games, drawing parallels to other industry events like the 2020-2021 GPU shortage, which did not disrupt engagement but instead shifted spending towards software purchases.
According to VGC, hardware sales in the UK have decreased by 14.4% compared to the previous year, primarily due to a substantial 32% drop in PS5 sales. Nonetheless, Xbox Series X|S managed a 3.1% increase.
The extended preview of GTA 6 became the most-watched content on Netflix in the past week, amassing 31.1 million views in four days the same preview garnered 22 million views on YouTube within the week
Sensor Tower reports that Netflix’s mobile audience in the U.S. saw a 35% hour-over-hour rise during the GTA 6 extended preview release.
