Celebrating the art behind comic books

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) —The 14th annual Boise Comic Arts Festival is back this weekend at the Boise Centre downtown. Running from Saturday, Sept. 5-Sunday, Sept. 6.

The Boise Public Library is hosting a comic book festival that focuses more on what goes into making a comic book rather than the books as a whole. While still having all the other familiar staples of a fan convention.

“[It’s] a way to engage and learn about all these different things and to, you know, learn about comics and get into that,” said Josh Shapel, the events coordinator for the library in an interview Wednesday morning.

Event goers can expect hundreds of vendors, guest panels and a cosplay contest. As well as gaming groups for fans of Pokemon and Magic the Gathering.

On top of that, artists will have the opportunity to sign up for portfolio reviews to get feedback from industry professionals on their work.

Comic books are a wide reaching hobby that is loved by people of all ages.

“It was a great opportunity to share just the love and joy comics can bring to people,” said Shapel.

The event is free to attend and no registration is required.
