Rebecca Gayheart-Dane knows there isn’t a perfect prescription to navigating Hollywood.

But as her daughters—16-year-old Billie and 14-year-old Georgia—with the late Eric Dane turn their sights towards following in their parents’ footsteps, the Jawbreaker alum takes solace in knowing she and Eric set the girls up for success.

“I think we’ve tried to instill just character and making good decisions,” she told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes in an exclusive interview. “Keeping themselves safe, setting boundaries. I think they have a pretty good sense of a safe situation and a dangerous situation.”

As she noted, “We’ve been doing this since they were little. So, they know,” though she added, “I still keep a very close watch over them.”

In fact, Rebecca was able to keep the closest of eyes on Georgia as the teen made her acting debut in the Lifetime movie The Ocean Between Them—alongside none other than her mom.

“That was so much fun,” Rebecca recalled of filming alongside her daughter. Georgie, you know, she’s just she’s such a great kid. She’s really smart. She has the acting bug and so she’s studying at the Margie Haber studio. She’s worked with Nancy Banks. It’s just fun to watch.”

Though that doesn’t mean she’s wishing away her kids’ youth.

“I would love to, like, stave it off for a little longer,” Rebecca added. “I’m trying, But, you know, one wants to be a model, one wants to be an actress.”

As she noted, for kids growing up in the shadow of Hollywood, the acting bug is a common affliction.

“It can go either way,” the 55-year-old reflected. “Some kids grow up on sets and go, ‘I never want to do that again. I don’t want to do that.’ And some are just drawn to it.”

For her kids, “It’s in their blood.”

But with her children starting to forge their own paths, and Rebecca—who is set to start in the upcoming musical rendition of her 1999 film Jawbreaker beginning <a href="https://comicvibe.com/netflix-adds-68-new-movies-and-series-for-september-1st/” title=”Netflix Adds 68 New Movies and Series for September 1st”>September 4 in Los Angeles—once again pursuing acting opportunities after years at home with her daughters, the family of three are entering a new chapter following Eric’s death in February.

“They had me at home with them always,” Rebecca said of Billie and Georgia, “so this is hard for them having me away, school starting and I’m not there to be at their beck and call. So, it’s really a season of growth for all of us.”
