Over the Hedge by Michael Fry and T. Lewis – Aug. 30, 2026

The second panel of today’s Over the Hedge comic strip had me thinking it was a rerun from 10 years ago since the commonly accepted though erroneous start of the Sunday funnies is closer to 130 years ago, not 120. But the copyright reads 2026 and I find nothing to dispute that.

    Alley Oop by V. T. Hamlin – Aug. 5, 1939

I do give credit to cartoonist T. Lewis for putting a Hamlin Oop on Hammy’s forehead and to writer Michael Fry for the phrase, “Online, no one can hear you laugh.”

MUTTS by Patrick McDonnell – Aug. 30, 2026

On the other hand I was going to credit MUTTS with being new until further research found a small alteration from a previous MUTTS Sunday bringing with it a 2026 copyright.

MUTTS by Patrick McDonnell – Aug. 27, 2006

But as far as I can tell McDonnell did treat us to a new MUTTS earlier this week. My notebook tells me it was the fifth new MUTTS strip this year.

Earlier this morning Mike at Comic Strip of the Day gave us a Reality Check panel, earlier this week prospective cartoonists got a different kind of reality check:

Daddy’s Home by Tony Rubino and Gary Markstein – Aug. 27, 2026
Judge Parker by Francisco Marciuliano and Mike Manley – Aug. 30, 2026

Because there is nothing better for the justice system than an aging neurotic who recently experienced near-clinical depression making recommendations – especially in family court matters with Parker’s background.

Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis and Jim Davis – Aug. 28, 2026

I was hoping for an extended gag sequence the would last for a few days of jamming between Stephan Pastis and Jim Davis as happened that other time Pearls Before Swine had a co-cartoonist.

    Doonesbury by G. B. Trudeau – Aug. 30, 2026

While Doonesbury mentioned the president there were other comics today that brought Trump to mind.

Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson – Aug. 30, 2026
Beware of Toddler by George Gant – Aug. 30, 2026

Janis’ use of The Gulf of Mexico has the advantage of timing with the petty renaming of Lake Ontario which, like “Gulf of America,” only cultists and corporate lickspittles will use. While I don’t think a day goes by where we are not faced with the temperamental leader of our country refuting “Dady’s” reasoning.

Netflix’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Reboot Majorly Improves 1 Character From the Original Series

    By JamesJuly 19, 20260

Despite all the comments made about “reimagining” the material, Netflix’s Little House on the Prairiehas been surprisingly good. While there are some things that die-hard fans of the original series (and lovers of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novels) may not adore about the new reboot, there’s one element that we simply cannot get enough of.
