The Nintendo Switch 2 costs $449.99 through Aug. 31 before its price increases by $50 on Sept. 1.Billy Cadden

If you’ve been thinking of picking up a Nintendo Switch 2, now’s the time to do it. No, there isn’t some new must-have game that’s imminent. The console itself is getting more expensive due to rising component costs — something Nintendo warned would happen. Beginning September 1, the Switch 2’s price will go up by $50, from $449.99 to $499.99.

This is the first time the Switch 2’s price has budged since launch, and Nintendo has held out longer than the competition. A global shortage of memory chips has driven up the cost of RAM and storage across the industry, prompting other console makers like Sony and Microsoft to raise their prices earlier this year. The much-sought-after PlayStation 5 Pro, for example, originally launched for $699.99, but is now a whopping $899.99.

Even with a relatively quiet next few months of new releases, the Switch 2 is worth picking up thanks to a strong library of games, which includes Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

If you can’t score a Switch 2 before the price goes up, Nintendo is planning to release two bundles this fall, and they can save you money if you were already planning to buy the included game and online membership. The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle arrives in late September for $549.99, offering almost $40 in savings compared to buying the pieces separately. The Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle follows on October 22 for $529.99, nearly $30 in savings. Both include a full download of the game and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online membership, which offers online play, a library of classic retro games, cloud save backups, and more.

However you decide to buy, it’s worth rounding out your setup with a few essential accessories, like a case, a screen protector, and a spare controller. Just be sure to make your decision soon, because beginning Tuesday, you’ll need to pay more for Nintendo’s popular hybrid console.
