August is on the horizon and while it can oftentimes be a quiet month in the world of gaming, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 users have plenty to look forward to.
At this point in the year, many games hold their releases for those holiday shopping months, also hoping to be at the forefront of voters’ minds come the year-end awards season.
That’s probably why there’s no first-party headliner from Nintendo this time around.
What fans can expect in August though, is the arrival of some long-awaited AAA ports and several new delightful indies.
Big Walk (Nintendo Switch 2)

If you’re looking for the perfect game designed for quality time with friends, Big Walk is it. Developed by House House, the studio behind Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk is dubbed a co-op walker-talker.
You’ll essentially explore a vast open-world while making use of proximity chat, so if you stray too far from your pals, yes, you’ll lose contact.
There’s no set goal in Big Walkwith players instead having to problem solve to overcome communication issues. If you fling your bestie off a cliff, for example, they’re going to need a walkie-talkie or whiteboard to convey just how much they despise you.
Lies Of P: Complete Edition (Nintendo Switch 2)
After landing elsewhere back in 2023, award-winning soulslike Lies of P will finally make its way to Nintendo Switch 2 systems in August. Developed by Neowiz,Lies of P: Complete Edition features both the base game and the 2025 Overture DLC.
The game is loosely based on the tale of Pinocchio. Set within the Belle Epoque era in the fictional city of Krat, you play as one of Geppetto’s creations amid a puppet uprising. Expect gruelling combat and formidable boss fights – perfect for fans of Elden Ring and Dark Souls.

Bethesda’s RPG classic returns as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, also joining what is a port-heavy line-up for Nintendo Switch systems this August. The original game hardly needs an introduction.
You play as a nameless prisoner tasked by the dying Emperor Uriel Septim VII with preventing the opening of Daedric portals. Originally released in 2025, this remaster from Virtuos subtly tweaks this all-timer for a modern audience with improved frame rates, textures, and animations visible throughout.
Duskfade (Nintendo Switch 2)

Duskfade looks as if it were lifted from the PlayStation 2 era, and that’s a huge compliment. Developed by Weird Baluga, this 3D action platformer is described as a “love letter” to the genre’s golden era.
You’ll play as Zirian, accompanied by his mechanical bird companion Cuckoo, as they’re plunged into a fantastical world in a bid to save Zirian’s sister with a mysterious clock tower having plunged the game’s world into eternal darkness.
You’ll jump, glide, run, slide, and swing your way through the game’s dynamic levels, which are all interspersed with fast-paced combat. It could be one of the month’s standout releases.
Grave Seasons (Nintendo Switch)

Grave Seasons is what Stardew Valley might look like if it were a horror game, albeit one of the cosy variety. Developed by Perfect Garbage, Grave Seasons puts you into the shoes of a former serial killer who decides to embark on a new peaceful life in the mountainside town of Ashenridge.
There, you’ll farm the land, decorate your home, and befriend Ashenridge’s residents. Unfortunately for you, the town is plagued by a supernatural killer and you can’t help but attempt to find out who it is. Players will break into NPC homes in search of clues. The killer could even be that charming neighbour you’re romancing.
The Witch’s Bakery(Nintendo Switch & Switch 2)

If you love Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service, then you’ll get a kick out of The Witch’s Bakery. Developed by Sunny Lab, it centres around Lunne, who can see inside people’s hearts and heal them with her baking.
At night, you’ll level up your skills and decorate your bakery before embarking on a new day.
Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 2(Nintendo Switch & Switch 2)

Konami returns with Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 2, bringing additional entries of the acclaimed stealth action series to modern audiences.
The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as well as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection Version), released in 2008 and 2011, respectively. That’s alongside a digital soundtrack as well as Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, a non-canon entry in the franchise which landed on the Game Boy Color in 2000.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition (Nintendo Switch 2)
After many long years, Elden Ring is finally making its way to a Nintendo system after originally launching back in 2022 and earning just about every GOTY award going. Developed by FromSoftware and with world-building by George R.R. Martin, Elden Ring takes players to the Lands Between, where they step into the shoes of a Tarnished, a banished warrior brought back to this forsaken land.
This is possibly the ultimate soulslike experience, so expect some tough battles as you traverse this perilous open-world. The Tarnished Edition brings with it some new bells and whistles, including two new classes (Heavy Knight and Idus Knight), new armour sets, and the added ability to customise your steed, Torrent.
