Pathfinder creator Paizo and over a dozen other publishers who have been fighting over a warehouse full of books for the better part of a year and a half, have finally reached an accord with Diamond Comic Distributors, with a joint motion filed on August 5.

The good news for the Pathfinder publisher is that, if the motion is approved, it’ll be receiving all its remaining unsold stock. This is a sizable win, since last month the company’s CEO Jim Butler revealed that it had $10 million worth of product locked up in Diamond Comics’ warehouse. The deal also ends the publisher’s current agreements with Diamond Comics, freeing Paizo up to find a new distributor, which Butler also said was a major thorn in its side.

If you’re tuning in late and need bringing up to speed on this issue, the story is that a major comic distribution company filed for bankruptcy in January 2025, and a dispute arose around what would be done with the products in its warehouse. Many comics and books were held on consignment, rather than owned outright by Diamond Comics, so the publishers argued that they should be able to retrieve them, whereas the distributor argued it could sell the goods to help settle its debts.

The most notable wrinkle here, is that Sparkle Pop, the holding company that collectibles business Ad Populum set up to purchase Diamond Comic’s assets, sold off some amount of product between May-October 2025, with the joint motion mentioning that “$669,410 represents proceeds from certain sales of the Consignment Group Member’s collective Consigned Inventory”.

Under this agreement, the vast majority of that $670k is going to DC’s creditors, with the consignment group members only receiving $50,000. This seems like a token sum, which isn’t going to go very far when split 15 different ways. Still, it’s a boon for publishers like Paizo that they can now go and get their books back.

While it ends a chapter, this new agreement may not close the book for good – assuming the judge signs off on it. The joint motion notes that the publishers “are reserving all rights with regard to any additional claims against Sparkle Pop”, if it turns out stock is missing, or there are more unauthorized sales. It also says The Consignment Group Members “contend they would be entitled to file a substantial contribution claim” for the legal fees and costs incurred during the process.

In June, Paizo revealed through a blogpost that it had lost $2 million in 2025 as a result of Diamond Comics bankruptcy, with a “devastating effect” on the business. At the same time, it announced it was laying off 12 employees in “restructuring” efforts.
