Kan. (KWCH) – ICT Comic Con is bringing notable names from famous comic book and science fiction adaptations over the past several decades
And one professional wrestler.
Among names such as Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Reb Brown (Captain America), Chris Bartlett (The Mandalorian) and Sybil Danning (Hercules) is WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Roberts — real name Aurelian Smith Jr. — made his name in what was called the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s and 1990s.
To make his gimmick come to life, Roberts carried a snake to the ring to frighten his opponents.
But as Roberts told 12 News in an exclusive interview, he was initially afraid of snakes himself. Until he learned how to handle them. Even that was a painstaking process, because WWE gave him a different snake every week — with a different temperament.
Roberts notably feuded in WWE with the likes of Andre the Giant, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, The Ultimate Warrior, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Undertaker, Honky Tonk Man and more.
Though he never held a championship, Roberts worked at the top of the card based on his in-ring skills, menacing character and renowned work on the microphone.
In the interview with 12 News, Roberts discussed his WWE heyday, memorable feuds and matches, how you can meet him this weekend and much more.
The full interview will be available Monday on the KWCH streaming app, available on your Amazon Firestick, Roku or Apple TV. Find “Origin Stories” under the “12 News Connected” tab.
ICT Comic Con happens Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
