The series will air nationwide in Japan on ABC TV and the TV Asahi network as part of the “ANiMAZiNG!!!” programming block, which airs every Saturday at 2:00 a.m. Two teaser visuals, titled the “Standard Version” and the “Yowarer Version,” were also unveiled simultaneously
A Romantic Comedy About an Unconventional Fetish
The original manga by Umihoshi Nanai is currently serialized on Kodansha’s Monthly Magakichi. The story follows Kiriya, a young yakuza lieutenant assigned to look after Riyo, commonly called “Ojo,” the daughter of the boss of the Washizu Group, a yakuza organization that controls the greater Kanto region.Riyo has a particular fetish that she calls being a “Yowarer.” She becomes aroused when she sees a strong person in a weakened state. As Kiriya is repeatedly swept up in her unusual desires, the pair gradually deepen their relationship.Described as a romantic comedy about an unconventional fetish, the manga’s humorous premise and comical developments have generated both sympathy and bewilderment on social media.
The two teaser visuals present sharply contrasting sides of the series. The Standard Version depicts Kiriya being embraced by Riyo, who wears a delicate smile. The Yowarer Version instead shows Riyo’s striking expression as her eyes visibly widen with excitement at the sight of an injured and weakened Kiriya. To celebrate the television anime adaptation, all chapters except the latest installment will be available to read for free on Comic DAYS. The limited event will run from 5:00 p.m. on July 13 until 11:59 p.m. on July 16.A celebratory message and newly drawn illustration from original creator Umiho Nanai were also released, along with comments from the anime’s producers. The anime’s official X account is scheduled to open at 4:08 p.m. on July 13. The time is a play on “yowa,” the Japanese word for weakness.
Comments
Original Creator: Umihoshi Nanai“Thanks to everyone’s support, Wound and Bandage is being made into an anime. This series is a romantic comedy about an unconventional fetish centered on Yowarers.“If I told the version of myself who was drawing the original one shot and thinking, ‘I’ll launch one huge, strangely shaped firework and then call it a day,’ that it would become an anime, I do not think I would have believed it. I am truly delighted and honored that the world of Yowarers, which was supposed to end within one small room, will now expand in a new form.“The anime production team has come up with many approaches that I never would have imagined myself. I am also eagerly looking forward to the broadcast with all the excitement of a fan. I hope everyone will enjoy it together with me!”
Producers: Kanako Tada and Maine Nishimura, ABC Animation“‘Th…this is so interesting…!!!!’ ‘W…we’ve found one incredible manga…!!’“That was the conversation the two of us had when we first discovered the Wound and Bandage manga. Our hearts were filled with excitement, and we wanted to share that feeling with many more people. We clearly remember the day we vowed to each other, ‘We absolutely have to turn this into an anime!’“With the help of director Miyuki Ishida, everyone at J.C.STAFF, and many others, we have finally reached the day when we can announce the anime adaptation. We are overwhelmed with emotion.“Your ‘thing’ is a very important part of discovering who you are. Encountering this work gave us more opportunities to think about that, and it reminded us of the importance of valuing what makes each of us unique.“But more than anything, before getting into anything complicated, it is simply hilarious, cute, precious, cool, wonderful, and incredible. It is a manga that reveals more of its flavor every time you read it. We are truly, truly grateful to Nanai sensei for creating this work.“The anime will also become more rewarding with every viewing. We intend to deliver a concentrated blend of delicious richness and pleasantly sharp intensity. We also have several surprises planned, so please look forward to it!”
