Baseball will crown a new World Series champion in 2026, with the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays each seeking the first title in franchise history.
The matchup between the teams with the best records in their respective leagues during the regular season isn’t necessarily a surprise, but it does lie in stark contrast to the dominance of the mega-spending Dodgers the last two years.
The Rays are in the Fall Classic for the third time in their 29-season history. The first came in 2008, the year of their spectacular ascent from perennial last-place finishers to regular postseason presence, but they fell to the Phillies in five games. They most recently lost 4-2 to the Dodgers in 2020, a neutral-site series played in Texas amid the COVID pandemic, and will relish the chance to have World Series games back at Tropicana Field.
Milwaukee’s wait has been much longer. The Brewers are in their first World Series since 1982, when they were the American League East champions, fell in a 0-2 ALCS hole against the Angels before winning four straight, then ultimately dropped a seven-game Fall Classic against the Cardinals. MLB set up shop in Milwaukee in 1970; will the Brewers finally bring home the Commissioner’s Trophy?
