Mystery solved
Mark Von Holden / for Netflix
A new season of Nobody Wants This just dropped on Netflix, and if you found yourself wondering where you’ve seen one of the new faces before, you’re definitely not alone.
I’m talking about Andrew Rannells, the Broadway fave who has been popping up in some of our favorite shows for years. And his latest role has me thinking it’s time for a little refresher on his most memorable TV appearances.
In season three of Nobody Wants This, Rannells plays Sebastien, a fellow student in Joanne’s Intro to Judaism class who quickly becomes her nemesis.

As Joanne (Kristen Bell) explores converting to Judaism while building a life with her rabbi boyfriend, Noah (Adam Brody), Sebastien has plenty of opinions about her relationship. He’s the kind of person who can plant a seed of doubt right when you least need it, which makes their dynamic especially entertaining. And despite their friction, the two keep finding reasons to hang out.
If Sebastien looks familiar, you might remember Rannells from HBO’s Girls, where he played Elijah Krantz, Hannah Horvath’s (Lena Dunham) ex-boyfriend turned close friend and roommate.

After revealing he was gay, Elijah became an important part of Hannah’s life, bringing plenty of hilarious one-liners and messy relationship moments along the way. Rannells appeared throughout the show’s six-season run.
More recently, Rannells joined Hulu’s comedy Deli Boys as Andrew Chadwater, a district attorney with ambitions of becoming mayor. In season two, his character enters a world of criminal empires, shady dealings and political maneuvering, giving Rannells another chance to flex his comedic chops.

Beyond these roles, Rannells is also known for his Broadway work in The Book of Mormon, as well as appearances in The New Normal, Black Monday and Netflix’s Too Much.
