Who Did It? ‘Clue’ National Tour Brings Murder

Was it Professor Plum? Mrs. Peacock? Maybe Colonel Mustard?

Penn State audiences can try to solve the mystery for themselves when the touring stage production of “Clue” comes to Eisenhower Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.

Tickets are $89 or $74 for adults, $57 or $52 for University Park students and $72 or $57 for people 18 and younger. Online tickets carry a $4 fee, but the fee can be avoided by calling 814-863-0255 or purchasing tickets in person at Eisenhower Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

The play takes the characters and murder-mystery setup made famous by the “Clue” board game and 1985 movie and puts them into a fast-moving stage comedy.

The story begins when six guests arrive at Boddy Manor for a dinner that quickly goes off the rails. Before long, the group is dealing with murder and blackmail while trying to determine which guest is responsible and what weapon was used.

The touring cast includes Zoie Tannous as Yvette and Kyle Yampiro as Professor Plum. Tannous said in a Center for the Performing Arts interview that the production depends on physical comedy and precise timing, while Yampiro said the actors have found ways to make the familiar characters their own.

That challenge comes with some history. The movie version featured actors including Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd and Michael McKean, giving the stage cast well-known versions of the characters to build from.

The play also has an unusual connection to musical theater. Although there is no singing-and-dancing musical format, Yampiro said the rapid-fire dialogue and pace demand the same kind of vocal control and timing that performers use in musicals.

The production includes scenic design by Lee Savage, costumes by Jen Caprio, lighting by Ryan J. O’Gara, sound by Jeff Human, and hair, wig and makeup design by J. Jared Janas. Casey Hushion directs the national tour.

The stage adaptation was written by Sandy Rustin from Jonathan Lynn’s screenplay, with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price. Michael Holland wrote original music.

“Clue” began as a board game called “Cluedo” in 1949 and has since become a worldwide franchise. Hasbro says the game has sold more than 200 million copies, while the 1985 movie helped establish the characters as pop-culture staples.

Eisenhower Auditorium is certified as a sensory-friendly venue by KultureCity. A quiet space is available on the lounge level, along with sensory-support items including earmuffs, anti-strobe glasses and lap pads.

The performance is part of the Center for the Performing Arts’ 2026-27 season. The season continues with Shanghai Ballet’s “Giselle” on Nov. 5 and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis on Nov. 8.
