Spooky season is in full swing on both Disney+ and Hulu. This week, we have the premiere of Coven Academy, which could be the next Disney+ teen hit, and the addition of a number of highly rated horror movies to Hulu. Here are the three things you absolutely must add to your watchlist, along with the complete listings for both streamers.
This Week on Hulu and Disney+: PCMag’s Picks
Coven Academy (October 2, Disney+)
The new series Coven Academy is set at a New Orleans school that only enrolls the most promising witches and warlocks. This sounds very similar to Marvel comic series Strange Academy, but there are only so many ideas in the world, right? Creator Tim Federle has plenty of experience with this kind of thing, having previously helmed High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
- Cast:Lucia Morris, Saylor McPherson, Everett Andres
- Genre:Fantasy
- Rating:TV-PG
Adventure Time: Side Quests: Season 2 (October 2, Disney+ and Hulu)
Head back to the early days of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human’s friendship with the second season of the Adventure Time spin-off series Side Quests. This show brings back the lighter stand-alone episode structure of the original’s early seasons, with a less dense art style. It features all of the zany imagination and surprisingly deep concepts that the franchise is known for.
- Cast:John DiMaggio, Sasha Knight, Maria Bamford
- Genre:Animation
- Rating:TV-PG
- IMDB Rating:7.3/10
Between Steps (October 6, Disney+ and Hulu)
Korean drama Between Steps weaves together issues of disability rights, life expectations, and more. Choo Young-woo plays former swimmer Park Min-jae, who was forced to retire after an accident cost him his leg. He pursues an engineering degree in robotics to try to build a new prosthetic, and when a former fashion student transfers into his program, the two begin an unusual romance.
- Director:Ahn Pan-seok
- Cast: Choo Young-woo, Kim So-hyun, Seo Jung-yeon
- Genre:Drama
- Rating: TV-14
