AI curated sangeets. Baraats shot from hundreds of feet above. Intimate moments immortalised in 360-degree capture, meant to be relived. Today’s weddings give centuries old rituals a cinematic twist, and as an actor who has spent years understanding the art of the lens, I have watched this shift up and close.

I still remember the weddings of my childhood, one harried videographer balanced on a stool, shouting at relatives to “look this side, please.” Cut to today: a DJI Mavic 3 Pro tracing the baraat from two hundred feet above, a Sony A7V locked on the bride’s face as she makes her entrance, and a gimbal mounted RS 4 Pro weaving through the mandap like a Steadicam on a film set. Because that is exactly what it is.

    Tech Touched Traditions

The camera of today is a storyteller in its own right. The close-up, especially, pronounces emotion. A tight lens on trembling hands tying the mangalsutra, a low angle of the groom as the pheras begin, a Dutch tilt of the bride shedding tears, such are the frames that can stop one in their tracks and break their heart simultaneously. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro makes poetry with wide shots: capturing the scale of a haveli courtyard seen from above, or a baraat rendered as a moving painting. The OBSBOT Tail 2, with its AI tracking rotating lens, follows the couple autonomously across the venue, so no emotional peak ever goes uncaptured. And the INSTA360 X4’s 8K 360-degree capture means one camera can yield multiple reframed angles in post, a director’s edit, all from a single device.

    From Vows To Viral

The bridal suite is where the story truly begins. Lighting rigs that shift colour temperature and mood with the music transform a banquet hall into a film set. Even the invitation has evolved: augmented reality cards that bloom into a short film the moment you point your phone at them. Today these celebrations live in 4K, backed up, shareable, watchable across generations. Tradition gave the Indian wedding its emotion. Cinema, it turns out, has always known how to hold it, and we just finally gave the wedding its own cinematographer.

    Aadil Jaipuri Recommends

    • SONY A7 V: Mirrorless? Check. Hybrid? Check. Shooting 4K60 with no crop and excellent low light autofocus for ceremonies and receptions? Check, check, check.
    • DJI RS 4 Pro: A feather-weight gimbal trusted by wedding photographers to unearth that perfectly smooth, cinematic wedding and entertainment footage.
    • INSTA360 X4: Not just super-high-resolution 8K, but a 360-degree camera too where performance does the talking. You can reframe shots in post—so you can capture a moment once and pull multiple angles from it later.
    • OBSBOT Tail 2: Right out of a sci-fi flick, this AI tracking camera complete with a 90-degree rotating lens that intelligently follows the bride and groom, if set to the task.
    • DJI MAVIC 3 PRO: The Mavic Pro is the authority on drone photography, and nothing else captures your aerial bridal shots or wedding motions as vividly.
