The range of OWL vehicles available to Ukrainian service members has expanded with a new armored personnel carrier: the Ministry of Defence has codified the OWL-APC (Armored Personnel Carrier), joining the MAC OWL armored vehicle.
It stands out for its rigid monocoque hull, virtual reality technologies, the world’s highest level of mine protection, and versatility.
The OWL-APC was manufactured by a Ukrainian company with experience producing armored vehicles for the harsh conditions of modern warfare. The company’s product lineup includes the previously mentionedMAC OWL special armored vehicle, which offers the highest level of mine protection among vehicles in its class.
Advantages of the OWL-APC
The armored personnel carrier is designed to transport personnel of security and defense agencies while performing assigned missions, conducting combat operations, providing fire support, carrying out training, special operations, and patrols, and responding to natural and human-induced emergencies and disasters in challenging conditions.
During testing, the OWL-APC confirmed its stated tactical and technical characteristics and demonstrated strong capabilities across a wide range of military missions.
The OWL-APC offers several advantages over other armored personnel carriers:
- compact dimensions;
- high mobility due to its 4×4 wheel configuration;
- longer operational range;
- higher maximum speed;
- low weight;
- lower operating costs;
- simpler and less expensive maintenance.
In addition, the OWL-APC has a low battlefield signature.
Innovative technological solutions in the OWL-APC
The OWL-APC features a V-shaped monocoque hull, a double floor, inertial blast-absorbing components and assemblies, and shock-absorbing, blast-resistant seats for personnel, among other features. The modular design of the troop compartment allows it to be converted for medical evacuation within a few hours.
The armored personnel carrier is equipped with an in-house-developed 360° VR surround-view system with night vision. By simply putting on VR goggles, the driver gains a complete view of the vehicle’s surroundings.
