Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has revealed her decision not to have children and questioned the pressure on every married couple to become parents. The actor feels opting out of parenthood can be a responsible decision as well, especially if someone is not ready for the demands of parenthood.
Varalaxmi, in an interview with Behindwoods, clarified that her decision was purely a personal choice and not due to any medical circumstances.
“I told you I don’t want kids. Not because I can’t have children. Because I don’t want children. She said, “I have made up my mind, and it is a firm one.
The actress, who married businessman and art gallerist Nicholai Sachdev in 2024, said that her husband is on the same page on this. “It is important to understand the responsibilities involved in raising a child. People should think twice before deciding to become parents,” said Varalaxmi.
The actor said, “Having kids just for the sake of social expectations is not the way to go. She believes that not wanting to become a parent or not feeling ready to take full responsibility for raising a child is responsible in itself.
Varalaxmi also opened up about her family with Nicholai and the special bond she shares with his daughter from his previous marriage. She says she looks on the young girl as her own child and will go on to hold her dear with the same love.

Varalaxmi also has two pet dogs at home, which are like her children. “We have two puppies and I raise them like my children,” she said.

Varalaxmi and Nicholai had been friends for a couple of years before they started dating. The couple announced their engagement in March 2024, and married in Thailand in a private ceremony in July that year. Then they had a marriage reception in Chennai.
