Unity Software (NYSE:U) stock rose 5% to $41.56 as traders weighed the company’s newly announced day-one support for Meta VR Glasses. The product news arrives as Unity works to reinforce its role in extended-reality development, though concerns around sales growth and billings still give investors reasons to remain selective.
The broader software group also moved higher. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (BATS:IGV) gained 1.5% to $106.81, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE ARCA:SPY) added 0.41% to $767.30.
Unity Gains a VR Glasses Catalyst
Unity announced immediate engine support for Meta VR Glasses, Meta Platforms’ next-generation virtual-reality device that is expected to reach retail customers in spring 2027. Unity said developers can begin building and testing experiences now, providing more time to prepare titles for the device’s launch.
For existing Quest developers, Unity said projects built with OpenXR can carry forward with minimal changes. The company also highlighted support for eye and hand tracking, quad views rendering that can reduce GPU demands, and spatial-audio tools designed for more immersive experiences.
Unity’s early compatibility could make the engine more attractive to studios planning games, entertainment products, training software, and other immersive applications for Meta VR Glasses. The company said developers can test certain VR Glasses interactions within the Unity Editor before receiving physical hardware.

Meta Alignment Could Matter
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is central to the opportunity because Meta VR Glasses will sit within the same ecosystem as Meta’s existing Quest products. Unity said existing Quest apps can run on VR Glasses from day one, which could reduce development friction for studios already using Unity’s tools.
