Twitch now <a href="https://comicvibe.com/twitch-lets-streamers-opt-out-of-amazon-ai-training-but-keeps-it-enabled-by-default-ukraine-news/” title=”Twitch Lets Streamers Opt Out of Amazon AI Training, but Keeps It Enabled by Default | Ukraine news”>lets streamers block Amazon from using their broadcasts, clips, and other channel content to train generative AI. However, it’s opt out, so here’s how to do that.

The Amazon-owned streaming service announced the AI training opt-out on August 12. Users can find it under Security and Privacy in Twitch account settings, where it’s labeled “Training for Generative AI.”

Turning off the setting prevents Amazon from using a channel’s streams, videos on demand, clips, highlights, chat, text, and images to train future models. Twitch says the opt-out covers Amazon models that generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.

We’ve added a setting that lets you opt out of having your channel content used to train generative AI content models across Amazon.

The setting applies only to future training. Twitch hasn’t said whether Amazon has already trained models with content from the platform or whether opting out affects material used before the change.

Viewers also can’t control how their messages are handled when they chat in someone else’s stream. The channel owner’s setting determines whether messages posted there can be used for training.

The switch doesn’t turn off every form of AI

Opting out of generative AI training won’t stop Twitch from using AI for other parts of the service. The company can still process content for captions, recommendations, sponsorship tools, streamer growth and monetization features, and safety systems such as AutoMod.

Twitch says its other AI tools don’t retain channel content to train models that produce new material.

Twitch says those tools perform specific tasks without retaining channel content to train models that produce new videos, images, or text. The company distinguishes them from generative AI models that learn from user content to create new material.

Some features, including AutoMod and captions, have their own controls. Twitch won’t let individual users disable AI systems that operate or secure the service because it says doing so could weaken safety for everyone.

The new switch is an opt-out from one specific type of AI training, not all AI use on Twitch. Even after users turn it off, Twitch and Amazon can process their content for the other purposes described in Twitch’s privacy notice.

How to stop Twitch from training generative AI

Twitch places the opt-out near the bottom of its security settings, but turning it off takes only a few steps.

    1. Sign in to Twitch.
    2. Open Settings.
    3. Select Security and Privacy.
    4. Scroll to Training for Generative AI near the bottom of the page.
    5. Turn off the setting.

How technology companies obtain creators’ work for AI training has become a growingg claims against Apple in April, while Apple argued in a July dismissal bid that it could lawfully access publicly available videos

Twitch’s announcement and FAQ don’t name the Amazon models that could use the content. They also don’t say whether training has begun or how much Twitch material Amazon may have already collected.
