Twitch has rolled back new labels about viewership on channels after they came under fire from streamers for them.

Over the last few years, Twitch has made plenty of changes to the streaming platform. Sometimes these are small tweaks to the categories, while others are bigger, giving streamers more chances at picking up sponsorships and better payouts, as well as cracking down on botted viewers.

On August 28, it was highlighted that the Amazon-owned platform has started rolling out a new tag on channels about how their viewership was going. As pointed out by Zach Bussey, the messages showed trends about viewership, including “viewership surging” and “keeping viewers.”

However, while it was rolled out to a small number of channels, the experimental feature came under fire. “Why the f*ck does anybody need this,” one user said. “Who thought this was a good idea man?” another asked.

Well, Twitch has since rolled back the new lines, noting that the language they used didn’t quite “capture” what their aim was.

“We launched this experiment to a limited number of channels to help viewers discover more communities they might want to join in on. We hear you that some of the language we used doesn’t really capture that,” their support account posted on August 29.

“We’re taking the community’s feedback back to our teams, plan to roll back these two labels in the meantime, and will work to make the experience better.”

While some creators praised the rollback, others urged Twitch to listen to the community before adding new features.

“The biggest thing we need right now is to help smaller channels get seen more, not the bigger channels be the only ones people see,” one said. “Why not get feedback before you spend money to r&d something as unnecessary as this? Nothing about this makes the platform better,” another chimed in.
