Twitch Lowered Its Affiliate Bar in 2026 – But the One Requirement That Stops Most Streamers Did Not Move

08-05-2026 09:25 PM CET | Advertising, Media Consulting, Marketing Research

    Press release from: iBusinessWire

    / PR Agency: iBusinessWire
Twitch’s Monetization for All update, shipped 13 May 2026, lowered the Affiliate bar from 50 followers, 7 broadcast days and 500 minutes to 25 followers, 4 broadcast days and 240 minutes in a rolling 30-day window. The fourth requirement – an average of 3 concurrent viewers – was left unchanged. Every streamer can now earn Bits and subscription revenue immediately, but that revenue sits in a non-cashable Spendable Balance until the Affiliate bar is cleared, which makes the concurrent-viewer average the metric standing between a channel and its own money.

Three requirements got easier. The fourth is the one that mattered.

On 13 May 2026 Twitch shipped the largest change to its monetization structure since Affiliate existed. Channel Points, Bits, subscriptions, emotes and badges opened to every streamer, with no status required first. At the same time the Affiliate thresholds came down for the first time ever.

Old bar: 50 followers, 7 unique broadcast days, 500 minutes streamed, 3 average concurrent viewers.

New bar: 25 followers, 4 unique broadcast days, 240 minutes streamed, 3 average concurrent viewers.

Followers halved. Broadcast days nearly halved. Minutes cut by more than half. The concurrent-viewer average did not move a single point.

That is not an oversight. Three of those four numbers measure effort – how much you streamed and how often. The fourth measures whether anybody was there, and it is the only one a streamer cannot solve by working harder.

Why this now costs money rather than just status

Before May, failing the bar meant no monetization tools. Now it means something sharper.

Every streamer can earn from Bits and subscriptions from day one. But a non-Affiliate’s earnings accumulate in a Spendable Balance that cannot be cashed out. The money is real, it is counted, and it is locked – until the channel clears the Affiliate bar.

So a streamer who cannot hold three average concurrent viewers is no longer just waiting for permission to earn. They are watching earnings they already have sit behind a metric they cannot control.

Three concurrent viewers on average sounds tri

A new channel goes live at zero. Someone browsing the category sees a stream with no viewers and no chat, and keeps scrolling – because an empty room reads as a room not worth entering. The streamer talks to nobody for two hours, the average stays at zero, and the same thing happens the next day.

This is the loop that ends most channels, and it is circular by design: viewers arrive because viewers are already there. Nothing about streaming more hours breaks it.

What warming a stream actually costs

GetStreamViews sells concurrent live viewers for Twitch and Kick, billed by duration and sized by viewer count. Current pricing, in USD:

Basic – 10 viewers – 4 USD per day, 10 per week, 25 per month

    Standard – 25 viewers – 6 per day, 15 per week, 38 per month

    Premium – 50 viewers – 9 per day, 25 per week, 63 per month

    Ultimate – 100 viewers – 14 per day, 35 per week, 88 per month

    Full plan details: https://getstreamviews.com/pricing

Every tier covers both Twitch and Kick, includes live chat activity, and runs entirely in the cloud. There is nothing to download, no proxies to configure, and no account password is ever required.

The controls matter more than the count

The difference between a stream that looks warm and one that looks staged is pacing, not volume.

Join delay is adjustable from 10 to 300 seconds, so viewers arrive gradually across the first part of a stream rather than appearing all at once at minute zero. Traffic origin settings control where they appear to come from. Auto-start triggers delivery after the platform detects the channel is live – roughly two minutes in – rather than at checkout, so nothing runs against an offline channel.

A channel that jumps from 0 to 50 the second it goes live has told everyone watching exactly what happened. One that fills over twenty minutes has not.

Kick’s terms differ from Twitch’s and many streamers now run both. Every GetStreamViews plan covers both platforms from a single account: https://getstreamviews.com/buy-kick-viewers.

For streamers still deciding where to put their hours, the trade-offs are broken down at https://getstreamviews.com/blog/twitch-growth-methods-compared-2026, and the revenue side can be modelled with the free calculators at https://getstreamviews.com/tools.

Twitch made three of its four Affiliate requirements easier in May 2026 and left the hardest one alone. For streamers with locked earnings sitting behind a three-viewer average, that single unchanged number is now the whole gate.

Streaming more hours does not fix an empty room. Making the room look worth entering is a different problem, and it is the one GetStreamViews (https://getstreamviews.com/buy-twitch-viewers) is built for.

Streamers remain responsible for compliance with the Community Guidelines and monetization rules of the platforms they stream on.

GetStreamViews is a cloud-based service delivering concurrent live viewers and chat activity to Twitch and Kick channels. Plans are billed by day, week or month and sized by viewer count, with adjustable join delay, traffic origin settings and auto-start on go-live. Everything runs in the browser – no downloads, no proxies, and no account password is ever required. Billed securely by card, with no contracts.

Kick Pays 60% More Per Subscriber Than Twitch – And in 2026 Streamers No Longer …Kick takes a 5% cut of subscription revenue – and that 5% is a payment-processing fee rather than a platform cut – leaving creators roughly 4,74 USD of a 4,99 USD Tier 1 subscription.
