Todayanchor Craig Melvin was left speechless after a fan recreated his viral childhood photo for Halloween.
During the Friday episode of Today, the anchors brought up Lakeva K. Ferreira to show off her costume on-air. Inspired by a photo of Melvin playing the violin and wearing oversized glasses, Ferreira fully captured the journalist’s essence, even taking a moment to mimic his smirk during a side-by-side comparison.
Folded over with laughter, Melvin noted, “She drove up from Charlotte, North Carolina.”
His fellow anchor Carson Daly quipped, “You win Halloween.”
When asked why she decided to dress up as Melvin for Halloween, Ferreira said she was motivated by the fact that his costars “clown” him so much for the old photo.
“They mess with you about that picture all the time,” she explained. “And I said, ‘You know what? Somebody should have done this already. I’m gonna have to do it.’ So I was like, let me go ahead. I got in the car and I started driving yesterday and got here this morning.”
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie praised her commitment to the costume, including her use of a blue background to imitate a school photo. She called Ferreira the “very spitting image of the iconic Craig photo.”
“You’re gonna go so viral today,” Daly added.

Indeed, Melvin has received a few playful jabs for his childhood photo. Participating in a viral trend in 2024, which entailed having stars autograph old photos of themselves, the Today team asked Melvin to sign a print of his violin pic.
“You guys have got your money’s worth out of this picture,” the 47-year-old joked at the time. “I have seen this God-awful violin picture more than any human should see an embarrassing picture from his childhood. Look at those glasses! I was what the kids call a ‘late bloomer.'”
