    TUESDAY

UEFA Nations League Live, ITV 1

England take on Czechia for the second time in their next match as part of the UEFA Nations League. Following the Three Lions’ triumph last week, both sides will be looking to make their mark in the group stages again. It promises to be a competitive night of international football, with England hoping to secure an important result away from home.

    THURSDAY

    The Celebrity Traitors, BBC One

The celebrity version of The Traitors is back, and episode three sees the game really begin to heat up. Following the first banishment, the Faithful will be hoping they’ve managed to catch a Traitor, while the Traitors have to keep their identities hidden. A new mission only adds to the suspicion and paranoia, before the players face another tense Round Table and the possibility of sending an innocent Faithful home. With a cast including James Acaster, Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart and Richard E Grant, there are plenty of big personalities to watch as alliances start to form and trust becomes increasingly difficult.

    Below, Netflix

Josh Hartnett leads this atmospheric new thriller set in a remote Newfoundland fishing community, where an unidentified sea creature begins terrorising the town. Hartnett plays fisherman Calvin Penney, who teams up with visiting marine researcher Fonda Howander (Mackenzie Davis) to protect his family, uncover the truth behind the attacks and confront the secrets buried beneath the water. Blending creature horror with family drama and local folklore, the six-part series was filmed on location in Newfoundland, giving it a suitably wild and isolated backdrop. Stranger Things‘ Charlie Heaton also stars as Hartnett’s son.

    FRIDAY

    Matchbox The Movie, Apple TV

The latest toy-to-screen adaptation comes courtesy of Matchbox The Movie, a globe-trotting action comedy inspired by the iconic Mattel cars. John Cena stars as Sean, an undercover CIA agent who returns to his hometown and reconnects with his childhood friends, only for their reunion to turn into an international race to save the world. Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson and Teyonah Parris also star. Directed by Extraction filmmaker Sam Hargrave, the film promises plenty of high-speed chases, international locations and tongue-in-cheek action.

    Animals, Netflix

Ben Affleck is back in the director’s chair for this tense new Netflix thriller, which he also co-wrote and stars in alongside Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson. Affleck plays a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose carefully constructed life is thrown into chaos when his son is kidnapped, forcing him and his wife to scramble for the ransom while navigating a web of deception. With a strong cast, a dark LA setting and Affleck taking on multiple roles behind the scenes, this looks set to be one of Netflix’s big films this autumn.

    Other Mommy, Cinemas Nationwide

If you’re after something genuinely creepy this October, Other Mommy is one to add to the list. Based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House, the supernatural horror follows eight-year-old Bela, who begins communicating with a sinister entity that emerges from her wardrobe and takes the unsettling form of her own mother. Jessica Chastain stars alongside Jay Duplass and Dichen Lachman, with The Boogeyman director Rob Savage behind the camera. The story centres on Bela’s increasingly disturbing relationship with the entity, known as “Other Mommy”, as its presence becomes more threatening to her and her family.

    The Uprising, Cinemas Nationwide

Andrew Garfield takes the lead in The Uprising, a historical drama from United 93 and Captain Phillips director Paul Greengrass. Set during England’s Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, Garfield plays a farmer who becomes the unlikely leader of a rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II, played by The White Lotus star Woody Norman. Inspired by the true events that helped fuel the legend of Robin Hood, the film brings together a strong supporting cast including Jamie Bell, Tom Hollander, Thomasin McKenzie and Katherine Waterston.

    The Social Reckoning, Cinemas Nationwide

Aaron Sorkin returns with this timely drama about the whistleblower who helped expose Facebook’s most closely guarded secrets. The Social Reckoning stars Mikey Madison as Frances Haugen, the young Facebook engineer who enlists The Guardian journalist Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White, as she begins to uncover what is happening inside the social media giant. Positioned as a companion piece to Sorkin’s The Social Network, the film is inspired by true events and brings together a strong cast including Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin and Jeremy Strong. With Sorkin writing and directing, it’s set to explore the real-world fallout of one of the biggest social media stories of recent years.
