Well, there goes any hope of The Hunting Partybeing saved
The NBC drama was axed nearly a month after its Season 2 finale aired and after the network had already set its 2026-2027 schedule on June 1. Cast options expired on July 1, and the lack of any extensions is proof that Universal Television wasn’t able to find a new place for it to air or stream (it did well on Netflix and Peacock)
The Season 2 finale ended with Bex (Melissa Roxburgh), Hassani (Patrick Sabongui), and Shane (Josh McKenzie), the team who hunts down the serial killers who escaped from The Pit (a top-secret prison filled with killers who were seemingly dead) taking down Lazarus (Kari Matchett) — Shane’s mother who had seemingly graduated from the program and wanted to ensure other inmates did, too — but finding out that there was something major they didn’t know about what was going on

Another part of that program, Philip Beaumont (Michael O’Keefe) joined the team at their bar and revealed he’d been trying to have The Pit shut down for years in the finale. He wanted to stop the secret experiments and the graduate program, and with Lazarus and Mallory gone, they would need a new boss to lead the recapture of the inmates still out there: Bex. Furthermore, he revealed that there was a reason that list was so long: The Pit was also creating serial killers. It would’ve been interesting to see what those killers were like. That seemingly set the series up to continue for years to come, since each episode covered the search for one killer.

2026 Canceled TV Shows: Which Ones Could Still Be Saved?
Ahead of the finale, TV Insider spoke with executive producersJJ Bailey and Jake Coburn about how it would set up future seasons. “We open things back up at the very end, sending our team in a new direction,” said Bailey
Added Coburn, “The dynamic of the show and the world of the show is going to shift a little.”

The series also ended without any resolution for the potential romance between Bex and Shane, as well as the mystery just introduced about Hassani’s late wife. He found a newspaper clipping with a photo of her on the wall of the journalist in whose home they’d found one of the escaped killers (John Corbett‘s Xander). The headline read: Civil Health Fund Announces New Medical Supply Push
