    • San Diego Comic-Con is the largest gathering of geeks where fans can enjoy cosplay, buy collectibles, and get exclusive news on their favorite franchises.
    • Marvel had the most buzzworthy Hall H presentation at Comic-Con, showcasing footage from Avengers: Doomsday and announcing upcoming movies like Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3.
    • Ryan Reynolds surprised fans at Comic-Con by crashing the Marvel panel in a custom Deadpool outfit made of blue jeans, allowing him to walk around the convention incognito and interact with fans.

San Diego Comic-Con is, without a doubt, the largest gathering of hardcore geeks on the planet. They come to the con for many different reasons, like enjoying cosplay and spending way too much on various collectibles. Of course, the brave souls who are willing to camp out (sometimes literally) long enough to get into the coveted Hall H have one very specific purpose: to get the latest news on their favorite franchises. After all, Hall H is the immense, 7,500-seat auditorium where major movie studios make huge announcements, show exclusive footage, and give out free merch.

This year, as in most years, Marvel had the most buzzworthy Hall H presentation. Eager fans got to see cool footage from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and they were the first in the world to hear about upcoming MCU movies like Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3. They were also treated to a special surprise: Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel wearing a custom, blue jeans-themed Deadpool outfit. It was a fun moment, but what really stunned fans was the actor’s later admission that, thanks to the costume obscuring his famous face, he was able to walk around Comic-Con all day without anybody noticing!

    Trading The Spandex For Denim

Ryan Reynolds crashing Marvel’s Hall H presentation was an entire vibe. When he walked up to the stage, he looked like any other Deadpool cosplayer, and Robert Downey Jr. asked, “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?” Of course, everyone knew it was Reynolds under the mask once he started speaking into the microphone with some snarky dialogue worthy of his famous Marvel character. “Long-time listener, first-time caller. This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?” This led to him jokingly asking if there was no “additional photography” for the completed Avengers: Doomsday, implying that he wanted to be in it.

Reynolds’ Comic-Con appearance was visually striking because of his unique outfit. In early leaked videos from the Hall H panel, it looked like he was wearing the grey Deadpool outfit from Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force comics. However, Reynolds clarified on social media that this was an outfit modeled after blue jeans. As a Canadian, the actor thought it was only fitting that he appeared at the con wearing a superhero version of his country’s most dubious contribution to fashion: the all-denim “Canadian tuxedo.” On social media, Reynolds showed off more of his cool outfit and revealed that it allowed him to wander around Comic-Con in relative anonymity.

    He Really Blue Himself

The post contained a video in which Reynolds walked around Comic-Con and took pictures with many fans who had no idea they were posing with Marvel royalty. Accompanying the video (which is set to Green Day’s “Good Riddance”) was a heartfelt post by the actor: “The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago. Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly 2 years after Deadpool &Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world. No handlers, no security, no ropes. WHAT A GIFT.”

In a way, Ryan Reynolds’ social media post was a gift as well. It let countless San Diego Comic-Con attendees know they had actually met one of their favorite Marvel icons. Plus, it let Reynolds tell those fans exactly how much their support means to him as he continues to bring the Merc With a Mouth to life over a decade after the first Deadpool film premiered. Only time will tell if this superhero actually appears in Avengers: Doomsday or dazzles us again with Deadpool 4. Until then, we’ll just enjoy Reynolds giving “maximum effort” to the most important people in the world: the ones who keep making him money!
