Who’s ready for a vacation to the tropical Isle Delfino, where the breeze is cool and the plaza’s always dirty? Super Mario Sunshine is coming to Switch 2 for Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on August 13. Discover where it all started going wrong for 3D games.
The GameCube classic is one of the more controversial entries in the Nintendo franchise. It ditched more straightforward platforming sandboxes for environmental puzzles that revolved around spraying water at messes to clean them up. The water gun was named FLUDD and, of course, it talked. In retrospect, it’s easy to see the seeds of both Super Mario Odyssey andSplatoon. Also the annoying talking flower from Super Mario Wonder.
Dark days loom over Isle Delfino!
Clean up a polluted island with FLUDD at your side in Super Mario Sunshine, coming to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on Nintendo Switch 2 for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on Aug 13!
Nintendo’s tease for the game’s arrival doesn’t show gameplay, but other additions to the GameCube library (which remains exclusive to Switch 2) have included improvements like better resolutions. It would be odd if Super Mario Sunshine didn’t get a similar treatment, especially considering there’s technically a remastered version of it you can already play on Switch
Some fans will be satisfied with finally getting to play one of the series’ most underrated entries on Nintendo’s newest hardware, while others might prefer the company to release a full-on remake at some point. Then again, nothing’s ever stopped Nintendo from double-dipping in the past. Mario Sunshine will bring the GameCube collection on Switch Online up to 10 games. Pokémon Colosseum has also been confirmed, but still doesn’t have a release date.
