The history of the site is, in many ways, also a record of how Superman fandom has evolved online.
When SupermanSuperSite.com first launched in 1998, websites were becoming an increasingly important source of information for fans. There were no social media platforms serving as instant news feeds, and the online Superman community was built largely through individual websites, message boards and email. The Superman Super Site developed during that formative period and established its identity as a dedicated source for Superman-related information. The archives document stories from different eras of the character’s history, including coverage of productions such as Smallville, Superman Returns, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Supergirl, Superman & Lois and My Adventures with Superman. The site has also covered the people behind those productions, including actors, directors, writers, artists and producers. This combination of breaking news and historical reporting has remained one of the central characteristics of the publication.
Original interviews have provided another important element of the site’s history. Over the years, SupermanSuperSite.com has featured conversations with performers and other individuals connected to Superman across several generations. Among those interviews was a conversation with Aaron Smolinski, who portrayed the young Clark Kent in Superman: The Movie and appeared in its sequels. The site also interviewed legendary producer Ilya Salkind, whose producing credits include Superman: The Movie, Superman II and Superman III. These interviews have helped preserve firsthand recollections from people who were directly involved in some of the most significant Superman productions in entertainment history.
The site has also developed an extensive relationship with the real-world Superman community through its longstanding coverage of the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois. SupermanSuperSite.com began attending and documenting the annual event years ago, eventually establishing a regular presence at the Celebration. By 2017, the site had documented its 10th consecutive year at the festival, covering celebrity guests, panels, exhibits, vendors and other activities. This long-running coverage has provided an ongoing record of one of the world’s best-known Superman fan gatherings and its importance to the character’s community.
An especially visible part of that relationship has been the Superman Super Site Meet & Greet. The gathering became an annual event during the Superman Celebration and developed into an opportunity for readers and fans to meet one another away from the website. By 2012, the Meet & Greet was already an established part of the Celebration schedule, and by 2018 it had reached its ninth year. Over time, the event became another example of how the Superman Super Site developed beyond an online publication and established a direct connection with the fan community. In 2026, the event reached its 15th annual gathering during the 48th Superman Celebration.
Collectibles have likewise represented a significant portion of the site’s coverage. SupermanSuperSite.com has documented the continuing growth of the Superman collecting market, reporting on action figures, statues, replicas, books, clothing, home-video releases and other merchandise. The site has covered products ranging from traditional mass-market collectibles to high-end statues and limited-edition pieces. Original photography has also been an important component of this coverage, with many images credited to me as Chief Editor and Publisher. Over time, these stories have become part of the site’s broader historical record of how Superman merchandise has developed and how fans have continued to collect and celebrate the character.
Today, SupermanSuperSite.com continues the mission established when the site launched in 1998. As Chief Editor and Publisher, I have overseen its development from an early internet fan site into a publication with nearly three decades of accumulated news, features, interviews, photography and historical material.
