After being kidnapped at the end of Eken Babu: Purulia-e Pakrao, our kidnapped detective emerges in Kerala for a brand-new mystery involving hidden secrets and dark deceptions. What follows is a roller-coaster ride packed with hilarious dialogues, in-jokes and enough comic absurdity to make this latest adventure a welcome mood-setter for the festive season. With an antagonist determined to get their hands on a closely guarded secret, Eken has little choice but to enter a new adventure to take on a new set of enemies against the serene, picturesque backdrop of Kerala.Although loosely adapted from the story and characters created by the late Sujan Dasgupta, the screenplay developed by Joydeep Mukherjee and Padmanabha Dasgupta transforms the premise into a fast-paced, action-packed adventure where the plot unfolds through multiple perspectives. The film incorporates various locations across Kerala with considerable ease, making this one of the most visually appealing instalments in the series. Tuban’s cinematography captures not only the state’s natural beauty but also its cultural nuances and popular attractions, offering Bengali travellers some serious travel inspiration. The action sequences are thoughtfully shot, while Subhajit Singha’s editing keeps the narrative within a crisp two-hour runtime. The result is an engaging entertainer that rarely loses momentum, relying on quick-fire exchanges and comic timing to keep the audience laughing. With Eken, Anirban Chakrabarti has created a character capable of holding his own against the rest of the cast. Much of the fun lies in the clarity with which he embraces the detective’s peculiarities and absurdities, turning what might otherwise seem like exaggerated character traits into a consistent source of humour. Some of the dialogues are particularly droll, lending Eken’s verbal exchanges the witticism that has become integral to the character’;s appeal here. Suhotra Mukhopadhyay and Somak Ghosh, meanwhile, draw on their easy chemistry to make the trio’s increasingly outlandishpredicament somewhat believable. Ritwik Chakraborty has a substantial role as the antagonist, but his performance does not quite convey the menace and intensity the character demands. Raima Sen, as Deepa, and Ambarish Bhattacharya provide effective support at crucial junctures, adding useful layers to the narrative. Arna Mukhopadhyay, despite his brief appearance, once again demonstrates his versatility as a character actor. The music remains easy on the ear, with the new Eken track incorporating Kerala- inspired beats into the familiar title theme, giving the adventure a distinctive regional flavour. While the plot leaves a few loose ends that may prompt questions, the film largely succeeds in delivering what it promises: a lively mystery, plenty of laughs and an entertaining escape. With Anirban Chakrabarti firmly in command of the proceedings, this latest Eken adventure makes for an enjoyable family entertainer and a fitting addition to the festive-season lineup.
